Michelle Machan of Grey township, daughter of Dale and Ruth Machan, RR 3, Brussels was the page for the July 7 session of Huron County Council. Michelle, a recent graduate of Brussels Public School, was introduced to county council by Grey township reeve Leona Armstrong. T. Cruick- shank. About 75 family members and close friends attended a golden anniversary party in the Sheraton Hotel Saskatoon for Dr. Chas and Anne Myers on July 7. Elizabeth Kernoghan acted as chairlady. Following a delicious dinner, regrets from those unable to attend, were read. Several guests spoke briefly of their association with the Myers family. George McCutcheon spoke at lengthof past memories shared with the Myerses, revealing many forgotten incidents over the past 40 years. Brenda Richmond, attired in her grandmother’s wedding dress, read an amusing poem dedicated to the celebrants. Don Kai, of Wingham, prepared a video of pictures of the couple from their wedding album, then added the evening’s celebration pictures. He also compiled an album of the evening, which all enjoyed. About 40 persons of the party-goers were from Ontario. Attending from Brussels were the Richmond family, Sarah Stephen­ son and George and Barbara McCutcheon, Jeannette and Bob McCutcheon from North Vancou­ ver were present, as well. The following day, the family entertained the guests at the Forestry Farm with a barbecue. Following the luncheon, every­ one was free to visit the zoo or walk through the park. On Saturday afternoon, there was a tea, in the common room of Dr. and Mrs. Myer’s apartment. About three hundred people drop­ ped in to offer their congratulations to Anne and Dr. Charles. Deepest sympathy is also exten­ ded to Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Jutzi on the loss of their infant son. The annual Goll Reunion was held Sunday, July 10 at the Bluevale Conservation Park. Family members came from Guelph, Brantford, London, Mil­ verton, Clifford, Wingham and Brussels. Everyone enjoyed the games and the smorgasbord sup­ per. Helen Cardiff returned home Saturday after spending a couple of days in St. Joseph’s Hospital, London for a cataract operation. Dona Knight had a special birthday on Sunday, July 10. Her family gathered at the cottage and then took her to Robindales in Goderich to celebrate. Dona certainly didn’t act her age on Saturday when, accompanied by Mary Ten Pas, they biked from Brussels to Bayfield. Way to go girls. Jim and Dona will be staying at the cottage for two weeks so Dona can recuperate. Mary and Murray Huether of Brussels spent the weekend with Joan, Gary and Christopher Rit­ chie of Markham. They also attended the Sunday Blue Jay game and called on Dave, Angela, Jeffrey and Kevin Huether of Brampton. Councillor Malcolm Jacobs rais­ ed the issue saying that with the amount of money spent developing the Brussels Dam Conservation Area it was terrible that the water smelled so bad. He blamed the problem on communities up river with improper sewage facilities. “I want something done about it, ’ ’ he said, noting the river runs very near to the wells that supply Brussels water. “It’s the same thing that’s been going on for years, ’ ’ Reeve Gordon Workman said.
