Although Bly th has won both home games handily it has yet to win in Sunday as the Blyth Midgets romped to a 13-2 victory to tie their OMHA playoff series at two Honeywood and must finish the series there Thursday night. Midgets swamp Honeywood in 'homer' series BY SILVER SKATES Thursday, March 10 Blyth Mid gets boarded the bus once more for game three of their OMHA playoff series with Honeywood. This game was a hard fought contest with the officials standing by and “letting the boys play hockey” only five minor penalties were called throughout the game as numerous stock offenses were ignored by the officials. This made for a dirty hockey game and the Blyth boys came home battered and bruised by the game. Honeywood opened the scoring Sports Blyth Tykes take tournament title in the first period but Blyth responded two minutes later as Keith Verburg stuffed a rebound past the Honey wood goalie. Dan McDougall and Larry Hunking received assists on this goal. Honeywood scored once more to close the period ahead by one. Blyth scored twice in the second period to open a one-goal lead before Honeywood came back to score two of their own. Larry Hunking scored the first assisted by Dan McDougall and Kriss Snell scored assisted by Larry Hunking and Jason Vanderheyden. Honey wood led after two periods by one goal. Midway through the third period Honeywood scored to go ahead by two goals. Larry and Dan combined to close the gap with two minutes left in the game. Despite good pressure in the last minute of the game Blyth was unable to score again. They left Honeywood with a loss but were keen to even up the series with a home game in Blyth. MIDGETS CRUISE TO WIN Game four was to be played on Saturday, March 12 but due to the ice storm Honeywood was unable to come. The game was played on Sunday afternoon in Blyth. Blyth came out hard and strong for this game. Blyth goalie Mike Henry was not busy as the local boyskepttheplayinthe Honey wood end for most of the game. After one period of play the score was Blyth 4, Honeywood 1. The second period ended with Blyth ahead by a score of 7 to 1. The third period saw more of the same as the game ended with Blyth ahead by a score of 13 to 2. It seems strange that the Blyth boys can play so well in Blyth and so poorly in Honeywood. If Blyth is to win this series they must pull up their socks and play like all their fans know they can in Honey wood. In game four Kriss Snell had three goals and two assists; Dan McDougall had two goals and three assists; Larry Hunking had two goals and five assists; Drew Allen had one goal and two assists; Jamie McDonald had one assist; Jason Blyth Tykes runners-up in Clinton tournament On Saturday, March 12 the Blyth Tykes took part in the third annual Clinton Tyke Tournament.
