The 1988 executive of the Huron County 4-H Club Leaders’ Association were elected from all parts of the county when the group held its annual meeting at the Londesboro Hall Monday evening. Cheerio Club hears poems The Cheerio Club meeting was held on Monday afternoon, Feb. 1 at the home of Stella Adams. Roll call was answered by eight mem­ bers and two visitors. Laura Lyon was chairperson. The minutes of the December meeting were read and approved. Stella will replace Mary Longman to send cards to any sick members or a death in the family. June Fothergill will replace Dora as secretary. Thank you notes were read from Huron Day Centre for the Home­ bound from Bob Burns and Margaret Good. It was voted to give $15 each to the first three requests for donations received this year. A draw donated by Edythe was won by Dora. The next meeting is Group II. Stella read “A Smile” and a ‘‘Description of a Senior Citizen”. Dora read ‘‘The Singing Tea Kettle” and ‘‘People are Funny.” Laura read ‘‘Dollars and Cents” and a “Recipe for the New Year.” Edythe will keep all past records at her house. Laura read a piece, “Heaven’s Grocery Store”. Stella had a contest on names of dry Londesboro Minister talks of 'Preaching on issues'at church Compiled by June Fothergill Phone 523-4360 Burns UCW gives donations to hospitals Burns U.C.W. held their meet­ ing on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at the home of Gladys and Ida Leiper of Clinton. Fifteen members were present. Gay Salverda was in charge and opened with a poem, “Discovery”. Hymn 388 was sung. Ida Leiper led in prayer. Ida Salverda read the scripture. Gladys Leiper read a New Year’s poem Rene Snell gave a reading. Hymn 504 was sung. Gay Salverda read a piece, “God will be with you”. Margaret Taylor gave the devotions and a reading on a Happy New Year. A minute’s silence was held in memory of Mrs. Ed Salverda who passed away this year and was a member of Burns Unit. Hymn 445 was sung. Jean Scott took over as chairper­ son. Roll call was answered by the paying of dues. The minutes of the December meeting were read. Mrs. Taylor gave the treasurer’s report reporting a good balance to start 1988. Gay Salverda moved and Josephine McGregor second­ ed, $100 be given to both Seaforth People Muriel Millson and grandson, William of Woodstock visited on Monday and Tuesday with her mother Dora Shobbrook and Jean Vodden, her sister-in-law visited with her on Wednesday. On Thursday Dora visited with her daughter Thelma Ellerby of Clin­ ton on the occasion of her birthday and stayed overnight and Clinton Hospitals. Jean Scott moved and Ida Salverda seconded, to give $50 to the Explorer Leader. A thank you was received from DaveandCaron Snihur. A plant will be sent to Mrs. Rice who is a patient in Clinton Hospital. Thank you’s were received from several Huronview residents for Christmas treats. Mrs. Rene Snell will be the new president of Burns U.C.W. and she is wished the best. Collection was received and a card signed to send to Mrs. Rice. A petition was signed against Sunday store shopping. The meet­ ing closed with a hymn and lunch was served. The next meeting is on March 4. Members will attend World Day of Prayer Service then have their meeting at the home of Josephine McGregor of Clinton. Greeting at the Church on Sunday was Jim Jamieson. Ushers wereGerbin Wilts, Richard Bergs- ma, Tim Airdrie and Laurence Bergsma. Second Scripture from Luke 16: 19-31 was read by Edythe Beacom. The Sunday School Carnival will be held at Hullett Central School on Saturday, February 13 from 7- 9:30 p.m. Please bring lunch. There will be a concert at the church on Saturday, February 27 from 7 - 9. Cost is $1.00. Guest singer and guitar player will be Rick Piche. Huronview Fellowship Londesboro euchre W.I. euchre was held on Friday, Feb. 5 at the hall. There were three tables of euchre. Winners were: ladies’ high, Marie Krauter; ladies’ lone hands, Vietta Hoggart; ladies’ low, Helen Lawson; men’s high, Roy Krauter; men’s lone hands, Glen Carter; and men’s low, Cliff Saundercock. The next card party will bein two weeks on Friday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. time is on Wednesday, February 10 at 1:15 p.m. The sermon was “Preaching on Issues”. The topic was on abor­ tion. goods. This was won by Margaret Good. Dora read a piece on “Talents” and she had a riddle contest. This was won by Edythe Beacom. Cards were played and a supper of casseroles was served by Dora Shobbrook, Stella Adams and Laura Lyon. Draw money came to $2.50 and collection money, $5.00.
