The Citizen, 1988-01-27, Page 19Obituaries Ethel Long dies at age 79 Ethel Isabel Long of Brussels passed away in Wingham and District Hospital on January 19, 1988. She was in her 80th year. She is survived by two sons, Murray of Brussels and Garry of Keswick and one daughter, Do­ reen, Mrs. Merton Hackwell of Walton. Also surviving are three grandchildren and two sisters, Jean, Mrs. Jim Keyes of Seaforth and Annie Engel of Cranbrook. Goderich woman buried at Brussels MRS. RHEA CARDIFF Mrs. Rhea Cardiff, the former Rhea Johnston of Huron Haven Village, RR 6, Goderich, passed away at Victoria Hospital, London on Monday, January 18, 1988 in her 64th year. She is survived by a very special friend Hiram Smith and family of RR 6, Goderich, three daughters Agnesand her husband Gordon Brindley of RR 3, Lucknow, Audrey and her husband Joseph Dewys of RR 1, St. Pauls and Georgia Anne Reynolds of Dungannon, four sons Charles Edwin and his wife Judith of Waterloo, Kenneth Russell of 4-H conference planned Communications ‘88, a regional 4-H program for senior members will be held on Saturday, March 5 at Western Fair Farm Show in London. Designed as a half day program it will focus on communi­ cation skills development. Senior 4-H members from Huron, Perth, Middlesex, Elgin, Lambton, Kent, She was predeceased by her husband, Claire, one grandson Jeff Hackwell and one brother, Fred Smalldon. The funeral service was held January 21 from the Brussels Chapel of the M.L. Watts Funeral Homes with Rev. Vic Jamieson of Melville Presbyterian Church in charge. Morningstar Rebekah Lodge conducted a memorial service January 20. Dungannon, Murray of Thunder Bay and George Arthur of Toronto, 15 grandchildren and a special grandson Jeffrey Cardiff. Also survived by five sisters and seven brothers. She was prede­ ceased by her parents the late Arthur Wheeler and former Pearl Johnston, two sons Thomas Mark and Donald James and one daugh­ ter Mary. The late Mrs. Rhea Cardiff rested at the Peebles Funeral home, Atwood. Funeral and committal service were held on Thursday, January 21. Interment was in Brussels Cemetery. Essex and Oxford are invited to attend. Gorrie man was sports leader DAVID ALLISON NEILSON David (Davey) Allison Neislon of GorriediedJanuaryl7, 1988 in Wingham and District Hospital. He was born 66 years ago in Scotland, the son of the late Walter Neilson and Letitia Allison. He was a well-known and popular sports figure in Western Ontario having been a member of the Western Ontario Athletic Association for at least 30 years. He had held nearly every position in the organization and was president from 1975-1977. He had served for 10 years as secretary- manager of the organization at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, the former Muriel Isobel Shiell and two daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Mrs. Ronald Westcott), Gravenhurst and Heather Lynn Schumacher, Red Deer, Alberta. Two grand­ children, Cheryl Lynn and Ashley Elizabeth also survive, as does a brother, Rev. John Allison Neil­ son, RR 3, Wingham. The funeral service was held from Knox Presbyterian Church, Gorrie on January 20, 1988, after visitation at the Gorrie Chapel of the M.L. Watts Funeral Homes. Rev. Paul Chambers was in charge of the ceremony. Interment was in Gorrie Cemetery. Serving as pall­ bearers were Bob Edgar, Glen Underwood, Bill Nay, Ed Stewart, Ken Charles and Ray Stewart. Melville Guild holds January meeting The Guild of Melville Presbyter- ian Church met in the church parlour on January 19. Prior to the meeting, the mem­ bers enjoyed a delicious pot luck supper. It was convened by Jeanne Ireland and Eluned McNair. They were also in charge of the devotions. Jeanne read a poem on the fresh beginning of a New Year. Following thesingingof a hymn, the scripture Psalm 91, was read in unison. Eluned led in prayer, leaniie gave the topic, stressing putting faith in Jesus who will help us.bearanyburdensin the New Year.
