MRS. EDWARD THOM '
Mrs. Edward Thom, a well
known resident of Lucknow,' and
formerly of St. Helens, died at the
Wingham and District Hospital on
Thursday, November 18th follow-
ing a period of hospitalization at St.
Joseph's Hospital, London awl at
Wingham: She was in her 95th
year..
Mrs. Thom' had been a resident
of Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home
in Lucknow since May until
suffering _ fractured hip on
September 27. Until . going to
Pinecrest to reside, she had
maintained her own apartment.
Following surgery at London, Mrs.
Thom returned tO Wingham and
District Hospital where her condi-
tion worsened over the next few
weeks.
Possessed with a kindly persOn-
ality that made her a friend of Many
people, of all ages, Rosa, as she
was knoWn to her friends, had a
zest for life that aging . did not
diminish. She loved to be with her
family and friendS, and lier ability
to find joy and pleasure in all
things, made her life 'an examPle to
all who knew her.
Mrs. Thom was a long time
metnber and supporter of St.
Helens and Lucknow Women's
Institutes. She was a faithful
member of United Church,
being •asiactated initially' with St:
Helens and later Lucknow United
ChUrch and the United Church
Women. She was also a member of
the/ Lucknow Town and Country
Club.
The former Rosemary Millet was
born in West Wawanosh Township
on February 4th, .1882, a daughter
of John Miller and Barbara'
Wallace. In September 1911 she
'married Edward ThOm and they
farmed in West Wavvanosh until
moving to LucknoW to the Ander-
son apartments in 1952. Mr. Thom
pasSed away in January 1959.
The late Mrs. Thom is survived
by four daughters, Mrs, Campbell
(Margaret) Thompson of Lucknow,
Mrs. Ron (Helen) Rothwell of
Norwood, Mrs: Al (Jean) Martin of
Long Beach, California, Mrs.
Stuart (Kathleen) Collyer of Luck-
now; eight grandchildren, nine
great grandchildren and one' sister
-Mrs. William (Margaret) Golloher
of Norwood.
Besides her husband, she was
predeceased by one sister Mamie
at the age of 17, And four brothers
Wallace Millet. Elliott Miller, John
Miller and Albert Miller.
The funeral ervice was held at
MacKenzie Memorial Chapel on
Saturday, Noyember 20th. Rev,
Doug Kaufman of Lucknow United
Church, of which the deceased was
a member, was minister. Inter-
ment- was in Greenhill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons,
Donald Thompson of •Lucknow, Ted
Collyer Meaford, Thom Collyer
of Orangeville, Ned Martin of Long
,Beach, California; Tim Collyer of
Gampbellford, Murray Hunter of
Wingham.
Flowerbearers were Andrew
Gaunt, Gordon MacPherson; Andy
Anderson and Harvey .Webster.
Irvin, 3rd Harvey Wightman,
• The over-all-winner, Harvey
Wightman, 'won a $5.00 voucher
donated by Andrew's Dairy.
Prizes of S3, $2; and Sl, were
given for lst, 2nd, and 3rd prize in
each class. An extra S5. was given
to anyone who enter ed five or more
topics.
The first prize slides in each
topic are sent to Toronto to be
judged. The results will be giVett at
the Ontario Association of Agricult-
ure Societies Conventioti in Febru-
ary.
Ripley Lions
Plan For Santa
On Wednesday, November 24.
the Ripley and District Lions held
their supper meeting at the Bruce
Inn in Kincardine. Twenty-seven
Lions and guests were in atten-
dance.
Lion President Bob Fair called
the meeting to order. Lion Tamer
Gerry Croolts lead the singing of 0
Canada and the Lion Grace. The
minutes of the . previous meeting
was read by Lion Secretary Frank
VanKooten.
Club members agreed to join
with othei Lions clubs in Bruce and
Grey Counties, to sponsor the
Massed Legion Pipe Band at the
Multiple District A Convention in
London. The Boys and Girls
Committee is ,making arrangement
to have Santa visit Ripley on
Saturday, December 18. . Lion
Seotty Regier, Chairman of the
Midget Hockey Tournament, re-
ported that arrangements ' have
been made to hold a Midget D and
E Tournament on January 29. Lion
Scotty said that the one day event
will involve a total of 8 teatrs.
' Tail Twister Lion Jim MacTavish
sold tickets on a lucky draw. Lion
Scotty held the lucky number.
'Seven Lions members and their
wives were to attend the MildmaY
Lions Club Charter Night on
Friday, November 26th.

The next meeting will be held in
the form of a Ladies Night on
December 11th in the Complex
Auditorium.
