farm land will be assessed at full
market value and paid 100% by
government. (Land does not
require services). This will
continue until such time as the land
changes use. If this happens, 'the
purchaser who changes its use,
must pay back the government all
previous taxes. The market value
for land will be arrived at
through average sales in that area.
The house. or residence on farm
land is assessed at full market
value. The owner pays on 50% of
this, assessment.'
People on :a severed lot will pay
taxes on the 'residence according to
the real estate value 'of that house.
Blake Sanford, NFU Regional
Coordinator thanked Commissioner
'Blair for his presentation. The
NFU has been working for a
number of years on tax reform. .
This may not be i00% satisfactory,
Blake said, but it is an improve-
ment over what we have now.
Other business included .`a' dis-
cussion on the dairy situation.
Most were satisfied with Mr.
Whelan's proposal of distributing
quota to those most in need. .If the
Provinces do not carry out Mr.
Whelan's instructions, the Prov-
ince could lose that portion of quota
in the new dairy. year. The NFU
felt that their trip to, Ottawa in the
summer had served a good .purpose
in putting pressure on the giwern-
ment to help the dairy industry.
' The NFU will continue its 'efforts
to help the beef producers. The
establishment of a National Meat
Authority,, with control over im-
ports and exports is the only way to
stabilize the price of beef and pork.
