'The Young Peoples Society held
their meeting• Sunday evening at
Langside Church with an attend-
ance of 14. The meeting, opened
with a sing song. Wendy Kay led
in prayer. Her topic was the Three
Walls. All thenAivided in groups
giving a definition of a friend and
discussing why we' have Walls.
They discussed the holding of
the` 3rd Annual Rally in White-
church with Knox College stud-
ents. Attending the Young Peoples
Convention at Forest this weekend:
will be Wendy Kay? Hilda de Boer .
and Marty Young. The offering
was received and dedicated by
Wendy Kay.
- Grace was sung and lunch
served.

Unit. 5 of the Lucknow 'United
Church Women met at the home of
Mrs. L. C. Thompson on the
evening, of October 5.. Mrs. A. J.
Wilson opened the meeting with a
poem "God's Love" followed by
hyirm. "Sing to the Lord of
harvest". The minutes of the
September meeting were read and
adopted. The treasurer's report ,
was given.. Committee members
gave their reports. Thirteen
members answered the, roll call by
mentioning "Something I am
thankful for" and donating a tea
towel to. the kitchen.
Mrs. Clarence Ritchie introduced
the program by reading a poem
"Thank You, God", followed by
the hymn "Now thank we all our •
God". A thought •provoking
devotional was presented by, Mrs.
Ritchie, Mrs. Gordon Morrison and
Mrs. Alex Andrew, followed by the
hymn "Come ye thankful people
come". The general Thanksgiving
was read in unison. A humorous
and effective skit "What is a
member''? was presented
by Mn. Lloyd Ashton, Mrs.
Armstrong Wilson, Mrs. Jack '
McKim, Mrs. Alex Andrew, Mrs.
Gordon Morrison and Mrs. Clar-
ence Ritchie. Mrs. Ritchie followed
with prayer. Mrs. Wilson and Mrs.
Ritchie gave courtesy remarks and
a 'tasty lunch was served by the
committee.

The October meeting of the St.-
Augustine Catholic • Women's
League was heldin the parish hall,
Father E. Deritinger opened the
meeting with prayer 'and Mrs. Wm.
Redmond gave a Bible• reading.
The financiai report was given by
Mrs. George Hebert.
Church Life convener, Mrs, Wm.
Redmond, • reported cards were
sent to, Mrs: Alphonse Boyle, John
and Bernard Bbyle, who were
hospitalized, also to Mary Ann
Frankel. A thank you card was
sent to, Jim Leddy of Wingham for
gift, donation to k Augustine
C.W.L. Gifts of sick call crucifix
were given to Mr. and Mrs. John
Beyersbergen, Mr. and Mrs. John
Hickey, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hickey,
newly married couples of St.
Augustine parish.
Cultural Life convener, Mrs. Gus
Redmond, reported four ladieS
attended the Deanery meeting in
St. Joseph's parish, Listowel.,
Those attending were Mrs. Cyril
Boyle, , Mrs. Wm. Redmond, Mrs.
Gus Redmond and Mrs. Joseph
Hickey. Ten ladies answered the ,
roll . call taken by Mrs. Emma
Franken. The ladies plan to collect
for the C.N.I.B., visit Pinecrest
Manor at a time that will be
convenient to the Home. Twenty
five dollars was sent to the
missions in Brazil.
The president, Mrs. Joseph
Hickey, thanked the ladies for
helping cater for the recent'
wedding, and also meeting of the
Historical Society that was held in
the- parish hall. Church, cleaners
for the 'month of November are
Mrs. Raymond. 13oyle and Mary
Ann Boyle.
Father Dentinger spoke a: few
words mentioning more attention ,
should.be given to publicity of work '
done by C.W.L. members, remind-
ing them to say the "Morning
Offering" to God. Lunch was
served by the ladies in charge.

Hymn No; 578 was' sung and Mrs.
Eadie thanked all who helped with
the meeting and closed with
thanksgiving prayer.
Mrs. Chas. McDonald gave a
timely reading "What Autumn is
all About" and closed the meeting
with the benediction and grace.
The committee served a cup of tea
and a social time was enjoyed.

The regular meeting of Unit 1
Lucknow United Church Women
was n held in the felloWship room i
the church on Tuesday afternoon,
October! 5th. The leader Mrs.
Chas. Mcponald welcomed all and
opened the meeting with a verse
"The, Harvest of the Heart"
followed by prayer. The
hymn "Come ye thankful people
come" was sung with Mrs. Pete
Cook pianist. The roll . call "A
Thanksgiving verse" was answer-
ed by seventeen members..
Mrs. Andrew Ritchie gave the
treasurer's report and Mrs. Eldon
Henderson gave the, report' on,
community friendship for the
month, Mrs. Russ Button, convener
for stewardship gave a reading "A
cup of cold water". Mrs. Ada
Woods for. Citizenship led a
discussion on what had taken
place at the United Church rest
tent at the Ploughing Match.
MrS. Bill Hunter for supply and
welfare reminded us that- there
would be a special collection for the
blanket fund at the November
meeting. We were also reminded
thatour special project fund should
be handed in at the November
meeting. Mrs. Glen Walden
convener for social functions Made
arrangements for Unit 1 for •the
fowl supper to be held on Tuesday,
October 19th.
The conveners for the meeting
were Mrs.. .Lorne Eadie, Mrs.
Worden Howald and Mrs. George
Stuart.' We were sorry Mrs. Stuart
was not able to be present because
of illness. • The theme was
Thanksgiving. Mrs. Eadie. was
chairlady and opened the ;program
by singing hymn. 579. Psalm No.
100 was read by Mrs. Ada Woods
and the meditation was given by
Mrs. Eldon Henderson "Things to
be thankful for". Mrs. Eadie read
a paper written by Lieut. Herbert
Wood of the Salvation Army "My
thanks comes easily at times". An
oral 'Bible contest was , given by
Mrs. Grace Gibson and a contest on
I the parts of a turkeY by Mrs.
Andrew Ritchie. A humorous
reading "How 48 cans of pumpkin
strengthened 'my marriage" was
given by. Mrs. RuSs Button.
