The first meeting :for the fall
season ok Trinity United Church
Women ;was held Thursday' after-
noon, September 9, at the home of
• Mrs. Wilfred Hackett, with an
attendance of .17:

order and then, thanked the
hostess. All joined_insinging "The
King of love my Shepherd is", then, .
the president led in prayer: The '
rollcall was - answered by news
items from 'the Observer. • Mrs.
•Chester Hackett • read \a poem.
"Prayers Can't Be Ansered
•Unless They Are Prayed".
Mrs. Alex Hackett opened the
devotions by introducing the theme
"The Church In Your House".
Hymn "Oh •worship the King"
followed. Psalm 128 was read
responsively, then hymn "Breath
on me breath of God" was sung•.
Mrs. Douglas Raynard read the
scipture and led in,prayer. • Mrs.
Alex .Hackett assisted by Mrs.
Douglas Raynard gave the medita-
tion and Mrs. Hackett closed the
devotions by leading in prayer.
Mrs. Ken Alton had a Bible quiz
and Mrs. Donald Hackett and Mis.
Cliff Kilpatrick gave, two short
prayers. Three letters were read .
concerning the Homecoming Sun-
day held in August.
After the business portion of the
meeting Mrs. Chester Hackett
moved a vote of thanks to the
"History Book" committee for all
the work they had put into it. Mrs.
Ken Alton gave the "Trinity
Tattler"- -and- hYnin "Rise- up oh
men of God" followed.
Mrs. Chester flackett closed the
meeting with prayer and the
committee • in charge served a
dainty lunch.

Lucknow Canadian Girls In
Training held the first fall meeting
on Monday in the United Church.
A get -acquainted game of colours
was led by Barbara Loree. The new
• leader, Shirley Colwell and six new
members were welcomed and
introduced, New members are
Judy Hunter, Shirley Loree, Peggy'
Gibson, Elizabeth Black, Brenda
' Henderson and Bonnie Purves.
The unifcirm was explained and
registration will be due September
27. •
• Leader Nancy Ritchie led the
sing song. •Worship based on the
song "Rainbow . of Love" was
• conducted by Patti-iou Irwin and
• Sandra Henderson. Kim Haldetiby.
and Irene Reitknecht led the group
in two lively games.
• Letters from foster child Marleny
• Millones were read and an
evaluation of camping was discus-
sed. Leader Laura Lee •Cayley
explained some of the years'
program. A cook -out for next week
was planned.
Elections for' a new • executive
were held and leader Elizabeth
Ritchie. announced that the new
president is Barbara Loree, vice
• presidentis • Irene Reitknecht,
secretary is Patti -lou Irwin and
treasurer is Kay Morrison.
• The meeting closed with the,
C.G.I.T. purpose, hymn and taps.
• Unit 4 U.C.W.
Unit 4 of the Lucknow United
Church Women met on Tuesday,
• September 7 at 8 p.m. at the home
of Mrs. Evans. Helm for their
September meeting.
Mrs. Robt. Finlay opened the
meeting by reading a poem "After
Holidays". We then sang hymn
• 576. • Each member answered th
roll call which was "the first school
I attended". A thank you note was
• read from the Pinecrest Nursing
• Home. The treasurer's report was
given. The October meeting is
going to be a recipe sale and each
• member is to bring a tea towel for
the kitchen. •
Mrs. Robt. Campbell was in
charge of the program. Mrs. Allan
Gibson • gave • a reading "The
Family" followed by hymn 112.
Mrs. Lorne Cook read the scrip-
ture. • The poem • "The •Stick
• Together Families" was read by
•Mrs. Allan Gibson. Mrs. Gerry
• ,Priestap gave an introduction "To
. Why We Have A Bible". Mrs.
Robt. Campbell gave a talk on The
Bible Through the Ages" which
everyone enjoyed very much. Mrs.
Lorne Cook closed with prayer.
Lunch was served.

While In Ghana
The September meeting of Unit
2; Lucknow United Church Women
• was _held ---at- the home of Mrs.
George Jardine with 20 members
and one visitor present. Mrs.
Bradley opened the meeting and
read a poem "Others". , A minute's
silence was observed in memory of
Mrs. Robt. Helm followed by
repeating the 23rd Psalm in unison,
and singingher favourite hymn
"What a friend we have in Jesus".
Roll call was answered by "An
unexpected kindness shown me".
Mrs. Al Irwin gave a paper on
• Stewardship and • Mrs. Vernon
Hunter spoke on Christian Educa-
tion. • Mrs. Barger noted visits
• made to' shut ins by the members
during the summer. The birthday
jar was passed,' six members
having birthdays. • • •
Mrs. Barger presided for the
'program. -She-read an interesting
• poem "Prayer" with humorous
hints for growing old gracefully. A
verse of hymn 519 was sung. Mrs.
•W. V. Johnston read the scripture
lesson from the 12th chapter of
Isaiah and give a short prayer.
•The meditation was given by
Mrs. J. Mathers on "Harvest
Time". The hymn -"-COme ye
thankful people, come" was sung.
Speaking for -her daughter Bren---
da and her husband, who spent last
year in. Nkioatia, Ghana •Africa,
Mrs. Clarence Ritchie -related to
• the group of their experiences
while there. They taught House-
hold Science, Agriculture, Animal
• Husbandry and other 'subjects.
Ghana is an undeveloped country,
very poor;, and sufficient water is
one of the great problems.
Transportation is difficult with poor
roads. The slides shown were very
interesting and gave a good picture
of their work . and the country .in
general. Mrs. Irwin thanked Mrs.
Ritchie and presented her with a
gift.
A Bible Quiz, followed by
repeating the Lord's Prayer in
unison, closed the' meeting. Lunch,
was served by the committee in
charge.

Unit 3 U.C.W.
Unit 3 of Lucknow United Church
Women met at the home of Miss
Helen Thompson on September 7
with an attendance of 16 members.
Mrs. Bert Alton opened the
meeting with a reading "Success".
"What a friend we have in Jesus"
was sung and the Lord's prayer
was repeated in- unison. The roll
call, was answered with a baby
picture. Each member is asked for •
a tea towel at the October meeting
for the church kitchen.
Miss Lorna Campbell chose the
theme "Let' us take time for all
things" for the program. "I need

one of our most valuable commodit-
ies and it is up to each of us to make
the best use of it.
Mrs. Simon de Boer sang a
lovely solo • "The Lord's My
Shepherd”. Miss Lorna Campbell
closed the meeting with prayer and
lunch was served.

St. Augustine met in the parish hall
with nine members present. • The
• meeting was opened with prayer
led by Father 'Dentinger. Mrs.
Joseph Hickey, president, welcom-
ed everyone present.
Thank you notes were read as
follows: Mrs. Kenny Leddy, Mrs.
Joseph Hickey, who were hospital-
ized; Mrs. Paul Black who received
a card and medal for their baby;
Phyllis Hickey, graduation plaque.
• The • C.W.L. are hosting a
meeting in St. Augustine hall,
• September 20 at • 8.15 for the
• Clinton Historical Society. George
Brophy, lawyer of Lucknow, will be
• speaker. His subject will be "The
St. Augustine District" and will be
followed by a short program and
'until. ••
• The church • cleaners for the
month of 'September are Mrs.
Theodore Redmond, and Mrs.-
Beyersbergen. There will be a
shower for the bride-to-be, Miss
Cathy McClinchey, in St. August-
ine hall. The ladies are catering to
a reception luncheon in the Legion
Hall, Wingham, September 25.
• Father Dentinger gave a refresh-
ing 'talk of the spiritual needs
within the C.W.L. society. Plans
were finalized. Meeting was
adjourned, followed by prayer.
The hostesses in charge served
lunch.
South Kinloss
W.M.S.
On Wednesday, September 1,
the members of Kinloss Women's
•Missionary Society met at the home
of Mrs. Evan • Keith for their
regular meeting.
• Mrs. • Ira Dickie, president.
•Opened the meeting with the poem
September Days. • The hymn
"What a friend we have in Jesus"
was sung followed by prayer by.
Mrs. Dickie. Two short plays were
presented portraying' the parable
"Friends at Midnight". Theactors
Were Mrs. Bruce Hamilton, Mrs.
Harold Howald, Anne -and Cathy
Hamilton, also Margaret MacIn-
, tyre and Lynda -Watters.
Mrs. Lorne Sparks led in a '
discussion about these parables.
She taught us a song , she had
composed for thismeeting. Eighte-
• en members answered the roll call
with a bible verse on friends. Mrs.
Frank MacKenzie gave the treakir-
er's report.
The October meeting will be held
on Monday, October' 4. in South
Kinloss Church at 8 p.m. when Mr.
• and Mrs. Jack Needham will tell of -
theirs werk and travels in other
countries. •
Anne and Cathy Hamilton sang
"Let the sunshine.in". Mrs. Vera
Schmidt gave the topic from the
study book. Several members took
part in the Prayer Circle. The
meeting closed with the hymn
"Blest be the tie that binds" and •
prayer.
