of Lucknow, Bill and Jennie to a
host, of friends, marked their 50th
wedding anniversary at their, Rose
Street home in LucknoW on
Saturday afternoon • and evening.
Many •friends called to extend best
wishes. •
William Anderson Porteous and
Mary Jane MacDonald were mar-
ried on September 45th, 1926. The
ceremony was performed at 'the
bride's"home, concession 2, Kin-
loss, she being the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs,. D. A, MacDonald. Mrs.
Porteous was a school. teacher.
For the past 34 years, they haN'te
resided on Rose Street after •
purchasing their home from Mrs.
A. G. (Dr.) Elliott.
Bill came to Lucknow in April of
1921 and in partnership with his
uncle, the late Robert Rae,
operated the Rae and Porteous
Hardware here until June 1954.
They originally purd.tased the
hardware from John- Joynt and
Wm.' McLeod,, and •upon selling,
sold to Charles Webster and
Donald MacKinnon.

Janice, centre, a grade 13 student
at Walkerton District High 'School,
will be Lucknow's entry in the Miss
Midwestern Ontario Beauty contest
at Lucknow Fair this Saturday.
\Janice was sponsored by Fisher-
man's Cove, Clam Lake.
On the left is Mary Eadie, 17,
runner-up for the award. Mary, a
grade 12 student at F. E. Madill
Secondary School at Wingham, is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Lorne Eadie. Of Holyruod. She was
sponsored by Hilray Farms, Holy=
rood. '
- On the left is Vikki Beasley, 17,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pete
Grazier of Lucknew. Vikki is' last
year's Queen and represented
Lucknow in the various events
throughout 'the year. She crowned
the winner.

Miss Dominion of Canada,
Pamela Mercer, will make her
annual visit to Lucknow Fall Fair on
Saturday, participate in the.parade
and act as a judge 'at the Miss
MidWetern Ontario Beauty Con-
test held in conjunction with 'the
Fair.
Miss Mercer, the pregent Miss
Dominion of Canada, has dark
brown hair, brown eyes and is from
Burnaby, British Coleimbia. Since
a distinguished panel of judges
selected her Miss Dominion of
Canada, she has been busy
travelling throughout Canada, the
United States of America and
abroad. The 20-year-old University

Seriously Injured
In Single Vehicle
Motor Accident
Glen Parker, 18-year-old son of
Mr. and 'Mrs. Lou Parker (Gwen
Treleaven) of the Plattsville area,
was seriously injured in' a motor
vehicle accident last week. The
Parker family formerly resided in
Lucknow.
Lau and sons Glen and Bradley
are all employed at the B. F.
Goodrich plant in Kitchener. Glen
was returning home about mid-
night after working 'the night shift
when his car went out of control
and struck a tree.'
He was critically injured but is
now making some progreSs. He :
received a badly fractured • leg,
fractured pelvis and collarbone. 'It

With Alouettes
Members of the Brian, Doelman
family of Kinloss Township were
not the most interested football
fans in the past, but the Canadian
Football League, and particularly '1'
the Montreal Alouettes, have
suddenly become part of their life
and they now have a keener
interest in the sport.
About a year ago, their daughter
Margaret Doelman married Chuck
McMann and, Chuck is a football
player, and a pretty good one, good
enough to play his first game in late
August with the Albuettes against
B.C. Lions.
Margaret, who attended school

show at Owen Sound Fair last

MacKay trophy and the Ontario
Shorthorn Club banner for his
achievement.
