Oklahoma. Roy was rised in the
Royal., Hotel here, the one on 'the
corner which burned two years ago,
'Then a surprise visit, Roy and his
wife Maxine were ,at the house here
on Sunday afternoon., they 'had
juit returned,from their holiday trip
and were at their Lurgan Beach
cottage. 0 Roy is very busy" with
contract's in Metro Toronto and also
in a few weeks' hopes to move into
their new home. They found the
folks in Ripley, Oklahoma to be
friendly, much like those here.
Population of that Ripley is 525.

On Friday afternoon, William
Robertson of Agincourt drove tip to
Ripley to visit with his brother
Bobby and friends here. Bill had
just returned from driving his 'car
9400 miles acrosssCanada to British
Columbia, visiting on the way, then
south to California. From there he
travelled in Kansas, Nevada,
Allinois and Michigan .to mention
some of the states. In Michigan, he
was in the area straight west of
here, across Lake Huron.
Later on Thursday afternoon,
Henry J. Down of Stoney Creek,
retired mathematics teacher, and a
former beekeeper in this area,
called here in Ripley on his way to
visit with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon

families gathered at the St. Helens
Women's Institute 'hall for a'
get-to-gether
A grand tinie was spent in
reminiscing' and looking at old
photos and letters, etc. A bountiful
pot 'oak supper was enjoyed.

By this time' Gordon will be back. at
Saltfleet Collegiate in Stoney where
he is head of the math department
and where Henry was a teacher for
several years. While here Henry
presented Tammy Rudder with a
handful of polished agate rocks,
seeing she was interested in rock
collecting. Henry himself is an
experienced rock' hound - one who
makes a study of rocks and 'has
many different kinds collected in
various parts of Canada.

Sympathy of Ripley and Huron
area folk goes to Charles Smith of
the fifteenth, north of Ripley, who
worked for several years for the
Bruce County' Highways Depart-
ment. His father passed away last
Friday at his residence in Glammis
in his 74th year. The funeral
service was held on • Monday in
Kincardine with interment there.

With the coming of September,
last' Sunday the congregations of
St. Andrews and Knox were, back at
their separate churches. Each July
and August they hold; joint
services. And, ,each presumably
had new ministers: Rev. Richard
Sand of Knox travelled around the
area this last week saying goodbye
before leaving for' his .new assign-
ment in Flin Flon, Manitoba. Rev.
and Mrs. Cecil Carnochan are now
in their new church, Creemore,
after serving for the past few years
in St. Andrews.
Last week Sharon and Wayne
Hardy, Andrea and • Kevin of
Toronto visited the Wyld Farms on
the 6th west, Mrs. Minnie Wyld att
Huron Villa in Ripley, and with
Niels and Nora Frederiksen on
Malcolm Street in Ripley.
Last Wednesday Mr. and Mrs:
Edward Brown of Lucknow boarded
the Kincardine bus bound for the
Canadian National Exhibition in
Toronto. It turned out to be a lucky
September the first for Ed and
Nancy. While there Ed bought a.
ticket on a car. Last Saturday he
received a letter• stating that he had
won a 1976 Monte Carlo car.
Congratulations ge to Ed and
Nancy - both of whom have had a
busy summer of work. Ed who has
been on the staff of the 'Ripley
District High School since 1968 was
at summer school'and his wife, the
former Nancy MacKay, daughter of
Mr. ,and Mrs. Allister MacKay,,-is a
hospital laboratory technician:

Here for the Labour Day
weekend are Mr. and Mrs.• Gordon
Laing of Delavan, Wisconsin. They
are staying here till this Wednes-
day in the "aunt Charlotte" home
or Donald and Angela Bell's house
on Ripley Street, Mrs. Laing is the
former Islay MacKinnon, sister of
Hamilton of Ripley and Donalda of
Detroit. A classmate with the
writer back in the twenties in the'
Ripley Continuation . School, Islay
called here Monday morning.

watched' while two members of one
Crew shot the test holes on the sixth
concession west of the 15th in the.
Part of the ' road back when
"hoOfing it" to school which was '
known as the Tom Stewart flats,:
•The muffled bang made by the
dynamite' in the holes tacked the
loudness of the test bombs dropped
in this area back the forties, the
years • when,' the crews of the-
bombing• planes practised on the
second block west of Ripley.
On Thursday afternoon, Dr. and
Mrs. Goldwin Emerson and• daugh-
ter of London visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Sam Emerson in Ripley.
Goldie is on the staff of the London
Teacher's Colleges, now located at
the Western University Campus
nearby. Goldie has his doctorate
. degree in philosophy, specializing
in education. Whilp here he visited
the high school and met secretary
Mrs. Pat Mason. Both attended
school here.
In last Thursday's mail there was
