THE LUCKNOW SENTINEL. LUCKNOW, ONTARIO
Recently John C. MacDonald
received a five page article entitled
"Tariffs: Some 'Manufactured
Goods and Farm Products". 'It
explains the purpose of Canadian
tariffs and the different types in
operation t namely British Prefer-
ential, Most Favoured Nation,
'General, and' General Preferential.
Generally. Agricultural tariffs are
lower' than those on manufactured,
'articles. Agricultural tariffs may
vary 0 with Jhe _season, being
reduced or in some' cases'removed
during the "off season". There are
two pages listing Canadian tariffs
on imports showing the different
• rates on 20 different things from
petroleum, ' pipes, hockey stieks;
papers, soaps and cars - to mention
some. The next page lists the
Canadian tariffs on imports froM
U.S. and the lait page gives the
U.S. tariffs' against Canadian
goods. In a few cases such as fresh
apples they cross the, border free.
The' same crops orproducts are
given on both pages for comparison
and in most cases the Canadian
tariffS 'are losYer. '
