New Look Around

KINLOUGH NEWS
The village churches have taken
on the new look recently.
The new Pentecostal Church is
under construction.
,The Presbyterian Church has a new steel roof. •
The Anglican Church had the high spire and upper belfry taken
down and a new lower, style belfry cover put on and rodded. New•
eavestroughing was put on the church, and the north corner was te•hriched, with repairs also done
to the chimney.
This was damaged by lightning/ over two years ago and it is just
now that the workmen 'and equipment have become available
tot this type of job '

Ripley -1 Huron To
Receive Two Grants
From .Wintario
Grants totalling $348,748 have
been approved for eleven projects •
in the County of. Bruce from the
proceeds of 'the Ontario Lottery.
The mounts range from $258,333
to LSO.
The Southampton Recreation
• Centre is' eligible to receive a grant
up to $258,333 for the construction
of a building to house a curling club
and, gymnasium.
The Ripley Huron District Recre
ation Complex is eligible to receive
a grant of up to $82;500 to assist in
the construction of an ice and roller
skating arena and auditorium.
Colpoy's Bay WoMen's Institute
of Wiarton is: eligible to receive a
grant up to . $2,000 for the
construction of a tennis court.
A grant of $1,890 is to be made to
the Kincardine Band Booster
ASsociation to assist in the
purchase of uniforms and instru
ments for the Kincardine Scottish
Pipe Band.
The Wiartoin Minor Softball
Association will receive a grant. of
$948 for the purchase of softball
equipinent.
A grant of $745 is to be made to
the North Bay Bruce Softball
League of Sauble Beach for the,
purchase of baseball equipment.
Keady Minor Softball 'of Tara will
receive a grant of $650 for the
purchase of softball equipment. •
Ripley Huron Recreation will
receive • a grant of $600 for the
purchase of softball equiPment.
A grant of $500 is to be made, to
Ferndale Lion's Head and. District
Lions Club to assist in the costs of
presenting a musical version of
"Anne of Green Gable?' on
August'. 16 in celebration of the.
Cultural Olympics. ..
The Kincardine Minor Soccer
Association will receive a grant of
$332 for the purchase of soccer
,equipment. •
A grant of $250 is to be made to
the "Breakers" Swim Club of Port
Elgin to assist in the costs of
coaching expenses.
Culture and Recreation Minister
Robert Welch said these grants are
part of the ongoing Share Wintario
program for the support of cultural
and recreational facilities...
To .date' the ministry has
approved $39:5 million for more
than 1,775 groups and projects
across the wince.

Rev. Burdge F. Green of St.
Helens, a former minister of St.
Helens: United .: Church, passed
away at Stilwell,. Oklahoma on June
23rd in hiS 91st year.
The funeral service was held' on
June 25th at First. United Method-
ist Church, Stilwell, Oklahoma with
interment at Stilwell • City Cemet-
ery. •

Mrs, Jack (Carroll) McKim of
Lucknow was recently appointed
Division Commissioner of Beaver
Division of the Girl Guides of
Canada. Beaver Division consists
of seven districts which are
comprised of Brownies, 'Guides,
Rangers and Cadets. from Ford-
wich, Gorrie, Drayton, Bayfield,
Goderich, Lucknow, .VVingham,
Teeswater, Kingsbriage, Clifford,
Formosa, Mildmay, Walkerton,
Clinton, Vanastra, Durham, Han-
over, Neustadt; AytOn and Kenil-
worth.
Mrs. McKim has been 'District
Commissioner for Maitee. District
for the past three years., Her
experience as a Guide was gained
at. Stratford where she attained the
highest award for' a Gtilde, The
Gold Cord. Since then she has
assisted with Guide work 'in many
ways, one time being Captain. of
the Lucknow Girl Guides. Recently
she was presented with a pin 'for
long service. Mrs. McKim's duties
as Division Commissioner began
June 30.
Mrs. McKim succeeds Mrs,
Angus MacLennan of Goderich,
formerly of Lucknow, who . has been
Division Commissioner for the past
three years. At the last Division.
meeting for the year, held' June 14•
in Clinton, at the home of Mrs. K.

Lticknow Ball Park was the scene
of a game of Donkey Baseball on
Sunday night in which the Lucknow
Kinsmen Club raised about $500
for community service work.
The Kinsmen played the CKNX
Try Hards to a 5-5 draw: The
evening was a -hilarious one, at
times, as the donkeys and their
riders turned in'a fine performance
to a large crowd in . attendance.

Scotland Holiday
Mrs. Jim McNaughton and Mrs.
Dan Thomson', both of Lucknow,
returned Sunday from a six-week
holiday in Scotland. Mrs. Mc-
Naughton visited with relatives and,
friends in Markinch, Fife and Mrs.
Thomson visited friends in ,ltyr-
shire.

The first Lucknow High School
Band, organized by P. W. Hoag
' Grace Alton, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Glen Walden of Lticknow,
placed. second in the Junior
Division of the Huron •County 4-H
livestock and field crops judging
competition held on June .30th at
SeafOrth Fair Grounds.
There were 57 competitors in.the
class. Grace Scored 674 out of a .
possible 800 points. The winner,
Chris Meier of Brussels, scored
680.
The junior division is open to
young people 13 to 14 years of age.i)
The classes which the co"nipetit-
ors had to judge included one class
of each of Arabian horses, dairy
cattle, beef cattle, swine; sheep,
corn seed,, barley seed, mixed hay,
plus an identiftcation class.
Harry Franken of R. R. 2 Auburn
tied for second place in the senior
division, age 18' to 30. He, scored
714 points out of a possible 800.
The winner scored, 718 points.
Runner-up for the CIL trophy, for
'highest score in the swine section,
was Jerry Logt'enberg of R. 1
Dungannon with a score of 94.
Dave Mawhinney of R. 1
Lucknow won the Cyanamid trophy
for high score in the sheep section,
with 98 out of 100.
The Huron Cattlemen's award, ,
for high in the beef section, was
won by' Roger Morrison of R. I •
