tractor. They were at' Elliott
Courtney's, machinery shop with
Doug Liddle working on them. All
the way, from Czechoslavakia they
are called the Zetor - sturdy and
compact machines. tefore the
Second Werld War in industry the
Czecks were often called the
"Yankees of Europe". -

Thinking of Europe - Reg Moore,
well known retired Ripley business-
man, flew from Toronto airport at
Mahon last Friday evening. Reg is
scheduled to spend the next month
touring England and Scotland.
With the Canadian Army in the
Second World War, Reg will no
doubt be revisiting persons and
families he knew at that time.

On Monday and Tuesday even-
ings of last week, Ripley folks were ,
at the Festival Theatre in. Stratford.
On Monday evening Grace Murray,
accompanied by Florence MacDon-
ald, Annie Scott and Effie Suther-
land, all ' of Ripley, and Irene
Griffith of Bervie motored down to
see a' comedy play. On Tuesday
evening, two bus loads left the high
school to, attend a performance of
the play MacBeth.

Mr. and Mrs. • Joe Fludder and
Cathy of Malcolm Street in RipleY
spent last weekend with her sister
Margaret Anne and Carl. Morrison
and Kevin at Melbourne, near
London.
Home for a few days this past
week was Jean MacDonald who is
on the staff at Pinecrest• Manor in
Litcknow7. '
With nice mild weather on
Friday and Saturday, Mrs. Annie
MacKinnon was able to'take a trip
up street each day in her wheel
chair, aided by her husband
Hamilton. Annie was able• to see
the main street, of Ripley again
after the 'long- Winter and, to meet
folks ,on the ,street.

The Ripley Happy Hearts are a
busy group. They published and
sold Some of Rev. Duncan MacTav-
ish's writings and now are planning
a new publication. A new
committee was appointed which
Mri. Florence Liddle convenes.
The only two available members,
Gladys Arnold and Margaret Blue,
met at her home to make some
prelhninary, plans. It is hoped to
have material submitted, which is
not any other publication. Storie,s•
of the homes'and those who lived in
them, character sketches of people
like Alfred Cook and Mrs. R. J.
Graham, who made unique contri-
butions to the community and
outstanding events. Maybe you
have special information on some-
_ thing like the Ripley- Waterworks.

Ontario Junior Farmers choSen to
tour in England, Scotland, Wales
and Ireland. This visit by these
winners of the ,Travelling Scholar-
ships , to the British Isles• is
sponsored by the Ontario Ministry
of Agriculture and Food,' Parlia-
ment Buildings, Toronto. It will
last from June 1st to July. 15th - six
weeks. One of the four winners is
Bryan -Boyle, son' of Francis and
Irene Boyle, concession 10 east in
Huron TOwnship:-A second winner
from Bruce is Janet Whitehead. '
Both Bryan and Janet •are fourth
year students at the University of
Guelph. The two ether girls in the
group are both registered • nurses -
Arlene Allin of Oshawa General
Hospital and Donnalene Pletsch of
Stratford General Hospital. As a
member of, the. Junior Farmer
Provincial Directorate, .3976-77,
Bruce Aitken, a graduate .of the
Ripley DiSfrict High School and
representing Bruce County, is
shown in the group picture. Also
pictured in the magazine is Mrs.
Dixie Cameron, R. R. 7 Lucknow,
who liveS in Ashfield Township.
Mrs. Cameron has been. awarded
the Junior Farmer's and the'United
Co-operatives Travelling Scholar-
ship to Australia and New Zealand
next January.
