quicken the flow of water in the
Lucknow River and cause an
increasing flood problem in Luck-
now. Mr. Murray said he felt the
Authority could be of great future
help to. Lueknow.
It was pointed out by Reeve
Joynt that council had engaged the
town engineers, B.. MI. Ross and
ASsociates, to do a: study of the
river, much of which was already in
their possession because of 'past.
work.
While the Maitland :Authority
didnot rule out the possibilitY that
the authority Might be in a position
to assist Lucknow this year in their:
flooding problem, he could not
assure it, nor at this time did it
seem likely because of other..
projects and commitments.
. Mr. Joynt indicated that it was
:mperative that the work be done
,his, year .to prevent a serious
flooding problem in future.
Questioned as to what tYpe of aid.
might be available from Maitland
Valley other 'than major expendi
tures, it was pointed 'out by the
Authority manager that labour and
technical advice in cleaning up a
serious blockage Of the river south.
of, the main street 'could quite
possibly be available. A formal
motion reque5ing this assistance is
necessary for the. Maitland Board
to' consider •it. •
No motion of this type was
discussed by 'council before ad-
journment.
.Reeve Joynt clearly indicated to
the two repreientatives from ,the
Authority that Lucknow Council
views past performance of • the
Authority in municipalities "to the
east" as ineffective and, despite
his respect for conservation author-
ities and the work they are doing in
some areas, the problems to• the
east of Lucknow make him question'
membership. •
Lucknow has engaged the town
solicitor to investigate the legal
involvements of them becoming a
Member of the Conservation Auth-
ority against the wishes of council.
No reply on this matter has as yet
been received from Queens Park.
