thriller in the Wingham park on
Monday night, Kincardine took the
lead in the first inning 2-0, •Wiege
ham scored one run in the fourth
to cut the lead to 2-1. Kincardine
scored one in the fifth. D, Bennett
started the inning off with a
double and Bollock singled him

LIONS CLUB FUNDS
AID COMMUNITY
, .Art the final'Meeting of the Lions
Club, Treasurer Norman Welwood
presented the financial statement
of that organization for the year,
showing the way in which monies
collected by the club from its
own membership and the public
was dispersed.
The sum of $334.14 was Paid to
the Recreation Council for hockey
expenses for the youngeters of the
community; $175,00 was donated
to the, fund for the erection of
a crippled ' children's treatment
centre in London; $157.60 was
used for the purchase of supplies
and instruments for the Boys' and
Girls' Band; $50.00 was sent to the
Hungarian Relief fund; $67.41 was
required for the annual Hallowe'en
Party for community Children;
$260.00 was spent on a TV set for
Use of the chronic patients at the
Wingham General Hospital; and
scholatships,. Christmas baskets,
assistanc6 to the blind, Bey Scouts,
etc., accounts for $196,08.
Receipts Down
Total receipts for the club Were
down by almost $1,300.00 from the
previous year and the bank and
cash balance at the lath of June
was a slim $385,00, so the Lions are
facing the need for a big' financial
success during Frontier' Days at
the end of August, This event is
the club's main money-raising
Undertaking for tile next •twelve
months,
Last year's Frontier Days net-
ted the Lions Club slightly over
8500.00, The gross was $4,097,88,
but after the cost of entertainment
and other eXpetieett had been de-
ducted the profit., for tise in Wel-

year is believed to have cost the
club a great deal, for gate receipts

Norman Schumacher
Dies in Hanover
Mr, Norman Schumacher, highly
respected resident of Mildmay and
well-known' in this district passed
away on Sunday afternoon, July 7,
in the Hanover Hospital, at the.
age of 66 years. He wan ill for the
past six months, and was removed to
the hospital, three weeks prior to
his death.
Born in Willoughby Township,
he was the second son of the late
Mr. and . Mrs. SchnAacher,
and came with his parents to a
faim on the 4th :ebneeagiiin of -stee
rick, when five years of age. 1 , :•••
In 1920 he was married to Estella
Kaufman, at the home of her par-
ents, Mr, and Mrs, John Kaufman-
in Carrick, They farmed on nis
father's homestead until their
tirement to Mildmay in November,
1952. - •
Surviving are his wife, two .sons
and. one daughter, Harvey at home,.
Kenneth of Mildmay and Ethel
(Mes, Wilfred Peter) of Hanover.
There are four. grandchildren,
Two brothers paid one sister also
survive, Emerson ,Schumacher and,
Sadie (Mrs. George -Macke) of
Carrick and Harry of Detroit.

residence until Wednesday at noon,
when they were , removed 'to St,
Paul's Evangelical United Brethren
Church, where the memorial ser-
vice was held at 2.30 p,m, ReY, H,
Ropael conducted the service .and
officiated at the burial in the
Evangelical .Cemeteay.
W. Scott Heim
Passes in States
Word has been received in
Wingham of the' passing ' Of W,'
Scott Heim, of Mendhbm, N.J., at
the Morristown Memdrial Hoapital,
on June 18, following a long illness,
Mr. Heim," was 68 years of
age, was born in Danville, Pa, Ire
was employed by the Sun Life' Me
surance Company of Canada for 42
years, and in 1952 retired. At the
time of retirement he -was assistant
manager of the Newark office. He
was a 32nd, degree Mason and a
member of Lodge 289, A,F, & A.M,
of Livingston, where he had re-
sided Latta three years. ago,
He is' survived by his wife, the
former Charlotte Madison, who will
be remeMbered here by many of
her friends, Heim resided.
With Mr, J. M. Graham who was
a flotiet here some years ago and
his sister, Miss Helen Graham,
She was at .one time a member of
The Wingham Advance staff, later
moving to Woodetocia She was
harried to Mr, Heim In Toronto,
and they have lived in the r States
since their Marriage,

AT VACATION SCHOOL
On Friday evening more than
100 parents and Children attended
a Parents' Night, held to markt the
end of the third annual Vacation
Bible School at the Wingham
United Church,
The program opened with va-
cation school songs, led by Mrs.
B N. Corrin, with Mrs. Gordon
Davidson at the piano„Th.e songs
included, "How Did Moses Cross
The Red Sea?" and, "On Time for
'Bible School Today".
The three to five-year-old chil-
dren then took the, stage to sing,
and to repeat Bible verses, under
the direction of Mee. L. Hutton
and Miss K. Pringle,
Following' the kindergarten chil-
dren's numbers a duet was pre-
sented by Gail and Ruth .Ilander-
SOIL
The primary depentment of the
Bible School then • enacted "The
Parable of the Excuses". The
major part .was taken by David
MacRae, as the king. The play was
conducted by Mrs, G, W. Tiffin,
who also explained to the parents
the work undertaken by the prim-
ary department during the school
course. A poem by Helen Carbert,
"entitled "The Church", was the
next item on the program.
The offering was taken follow-
ing the poem and the ' sum of
$37.00 collected. The money will
Ike sent to the National' Vacation
School Committee for their ex-
tension program and for mission-
ary funds.
The junior department then pre-
sented a dramatic choral reading
of the 24th Psalm. Three choirs
were featured in this presentation
aa.d they were divided, preeteetaleg•
te, the pitch of their voices. Choir,
1, representing the worshippers
coming to the temple was compos-
ed of low, medium and high vole-
ss; group 2, represented a choir in,
the towers on the 'city walls and
Was composed of medium and low
voices; group 3 was a choir 10 the
temple of the city and was made
up entirely of high voices. The
narrator' was Esther Kerr and the
production was under Rev. D. J.
MacRae, Mrs, II Burrell and Mrs.
W. Congram.

one of the highlights' of the even-
ing. Certificates for good atten-
dance and efficient Work at the

Miss Hazel Edith Little, (laugh=

away suddenly in Toronto en Fri-
day, in her 67th year, The body
was brought to Vilingharri on Mon-
day, and funeral service was held
at 2 pan the following day at B, A,
Currie & Sone funeral home, with
interment in the Wingham Genie-
tory, Rev, ID, J, MacRae, of the
'Wingham 'United Church was in
charge of the service. .
Miss Little is survived by two
brothers, George of Smith Falls
and Robert (Bert) of Toronto,
