been a frequent.visitor at the home of
Mr. and Mrs, Stanley Darling.
Surviving are two brothers living in
Toronto.

BLTJEVALE-TheW.M.S. met in
the United•Cherch on• Thursday after-
noon, the •president; Mrs. John 'Wick-
stead, presiding. She' spoke, briefly on
plans for the Year, among other
things a quilt to be prepared for a
missionary project.
The treasurer, Mrs. Sperling John-
ston, reported the allocation for 1955
Met and exceeded.
The worship 'service' was conducted
by Mrs. Milton Fraser, the theme
being "The Call' to the Mission of the
Church," Scripture passages were
read by Mrs. Lloyd Taylor, Mrs: Alex
McCrackin,,•Mrs. Sparling Johnston,
Mrs.' M., L. Aitken.
Mrs. Fraser introduced the three
new study books, "Home Mission
Digest", "Coming Our Way" (relating
to immigrants): and "No Vanishing
Race" (American Indians).

the Woman's Association for 1958 was
held hi the• United Church on January
5th, and was conducted by the presi-
dent, Mrs. R. A. Brook. The roll call
was answered by. paying fees and
nineteen members joined,
. The treasurer, Mrs. Alex McCrackin,
gave a good- report of receipts and
large expenditures and showed a very
satitifactory balance.
The president suggested a project
for the Association this year, a gift
toward renovating a builiing to form
a chapel for, the surnmer school.
'Plans were made for the anneal
meeting and eengregatiqnal supper,
to be held on the evening of January
27th. The parsonage committee Was
asked to plan for additional furniture
in the parsoriage.
John D. Metcalfe
87 on New Year's
WROXETER-Mr, John D. Met-
calfe, a native of Turnberry Township,
who was 87 years old on New Year's
Day was guest of honor at a birthday
party at the home of his sop, Isaac.
Mr, Metcalfe has lived his entire
life on the homestead. He is in geed
health, enjoys reading and Is a. great
television fan, Last summer he flew
to Western Canada for a visit and •
enjoyed that mode of travel.
Mr, Metcalfe hae seven children
living.*Herman, Thomas and Isaac, all
of Wingham district; Mrs. J. (Ann)
Wylie, Wroxeter; Mrs. Albert (paid*)
Tone, Mrs. Geo. (Isabel) 'Sha,W, 0440
Toronto; Mrs. Melein (Elva) 'Martin,
London, Oct, His wife, the late Fannie
Robinson Metcalfe, and a son, Arno,
died last year,

The theme was Christian stewardship,
and speaking along this line, Mrs,
Crawford said that the world to-day•
needs people who live conserated
lives and are willing to give their ser-
vice to humanity.
Felleyving this thought, Mrs. Gow-
aes and Mrs. Greer told,briefly of the
Iles. of Dr, Albert ,Switser and Flor-
enee .Nightingale, bath of whom had
sacrificed self in o rder to make the
world a better place in which to live.

Robinson and Mrs, McLaughlin offer-
ed prayer, Mrs, R. Gray sang the ap-

country. Last year the Ontario W.I.,
in the 'provincial project, provided
six community centres in rural Ceylon
to uplift the standards of living among
the rural women. When our delegates
visit Ceylon next year, it is their in-
tentien to visit these `centres.

here of the death in Cardiff, Wales,
of Mrs. Mabel Walker, a former resi-
dent of Gotrie and Howick Township,
on December 12, 1955;
Deceased, was horn in Scotland and
came to Canada in 1914; She was
married the same year to Robt, Wal-
ker, HOwick, and they farmed, on con.
0 and later on Highway 87, until retir-
ing to Gerrie. Her husband predeem-
ed her §0n20 six Yearn Ago.
After her husband's death she re-
turned to great Britain making her
home with her sister at Cardiff, Wales.
She was a member of the .Gerrie
Presbyterian church while .she resided'
here.
Surviving are a brother, „Harry Mc
