Library Board Makes Gift
To Retiring Chairman
The Library Board met at Mrs.
McNee's on Thursday evening, After
routine business was attended to, the
members expressed their appreciation
of the services of their retiring
chairman, Rev. J. H. Martin and their
sorrow that he is soon to leave the
community and John Stokes, on be-
half of the board presented him with
a gift. Refreshments were served
and a very pleasant social hour was
enjoyed with Mr. and Mrs. Martin.
The library truck called recently
With a selection of new books, Mr,
Martin also presented several vol-
umes to the library, as a parting gift
so the public is invited to coma in
and look them all over.

The regular meeting of Knox Pres-
byterian WKS, was held Thursday

Mrs. Elmer Harding had a'ionsilee-
tomy at Memorial Hospital on Satur-
day morning.
CORONATION TEA
A unique well- conducted coronation
tea was sponsored by the Mon's CIO
of St, Thomas Church in the parish
hall, Seaforth. Tea-makers complete
with chef hats, were J. ft, Spittal
E, Larone, while W. E. Southgate and
Gordon Harrison poured tea. Those
serving were E. 0, Boswell, H, G.
Meir, Thomas Aldington, Fred Scar-
i lett, James Bolger, Norman Scoins
,and Arthur Varley were in charge of
the kitchen. Throughout the tea hour
George Clarke, organist, supplied
music, which was relayed to the tea
room. Net proceeds were over $45.
Little Helen Shinbein, of Mitchell, SIORVE,
visited for a few days at the.home of
Mr. and Mrs. Anson Demerling, Her
parents spent Sunday at the same
home and attended the Struke reunion
with Mr. and Mrs. Demerling at Han-

To induct Elders
There will be no service in the
Presbyterian Church next Sunday
afternoon, June 28th. Sunday School
as usual at 2 p.m. In the evening at
7.30 p.m, there will be a service of
induction for two new elders. Rev.
R, J. Boggs, of Gorrie, Rev. W. H. T.
Fulton, of Brussels, and W. M. Hylid-
Mrs. Wray Cooper then told of her
very interesting trip to the western
provinces, after which a white ele-
phant sale was held which proved
quite interesting. The meeting was
then closed with the National Anthem
afer which a social half hour was
spent.

Sam Johnson, Mrs. W. M. Campbell,
Mrs. W. M. McCann and Mrs. Bert
Winston.
Friends Help with New Barn
Quite a number of neighbours and
friends have been busy pouring the
cement wall for the new steel barn
on the farm of Jack Reid, second line,
which was recently destroyed by fire.

The Fordwich Women's Institute
met on Tuesday afternoon at the home
of Mrs. Richard Aldrich with 30 mem-
bers and eight visitors present. The
motto, "Is the farm home breaking
up?" was given by Mrs. Sam Johnson.
A report on the recent district an-
nual was given by Mrs. Clare Harris.
Plans were made to send six delegates
to the Canada Day A,C.W.W. to be
held in Maple Leaf Gardens, August
21st.

and the topic "African Life, Old and
New" was given by Mrs. J. S. Inglis.
The meeting closed with hymn 581
and prayer by Mrs. A. Mundell.
Communion service was held at
Macintosh United Church on Sunday
morning conducted by the minister,
Rev. .T. H, Martin. The choir render-
ed a special number which was much
appreciated. Eleven new members
were received into the church by pro-
