Editor
As another Eastertide apIkroaches there are many
editorial sermons which would he re-preached, and all of
which would he true, However at this particular Easter,
1953, our sad, old world should be o more receptive
mood than has ever been the case in the Past two thous-

Canada.
Living as we do. in an age which is providing us with
undreamed-of luxuries and unbelievable promises for the
Suture, the person who is of thoughtful bent can so easily
think ahead to the and horrible end of all this
'blessedness. For eight years we have been faced with the
imponderable problem of what the Soviets intend to do.
Should the answer be war. our generation would never
know ease or plenty again. All too many of us have sub-
consciously fallen into the belief that such a war is in-
evitable.
New, coinciding with Easter, we have the first hope-
ful words from the new regime in Russia. Though we are
all sceptical about the dependability of Russian words, our
leaders have been offered new opportunities to negotiate
a peace in Korea: the Soviet government has issued a
general amnesty to minor offenders in their jails and con-
centration camps, and in all they are giving every visible
evidence of wanting to improve relations with other na-
tions. No one in the Western world could be blamed for
scepticism where the Russians are concerned, for their
previous dealings have left them with such a record of
broken promises and double talk that it will take many
years of honest behaviour to eradicate the memory.
Nonetheless, we should be grateful that there is still
hope of a peaceful solution to the differences which has e

would think of throwing all caution to the winds, but our'
leaders have rightly stated that they will gladly renew Miss Newman was the guest of hoc-
