Mr. Len Rtutan in his report as
session clerk, mentioned 18 baptisms,
$ marriages and /4 new members re-
ceived, During the year the Session
lost two valued members, Tires, .Bari
and Harry Ferguson, through death,
Sympathetic mention was made of
others who had passed from our Midst
during the year% Mr, W. E. McCrack-
en, Mr. G. E, Galloway, Mrs. Mary
Anger, Mrs. Anson Galbraith, Mrs,
Mary J, Gamble and Mr, Milton

During the year two important
events took place, On Sunday, June
22, the Diamond Juoilee of Gorrie Un-
ited Church was celebrated and an ap-
propriate booklet was prepared by the
official board, Then on Thursday, July
31, there was the induction of Rev. W.
J, V, Buchanan, BA., ED., of Cooks-
ville, Ontario, as successor to Rev, J.
R. Watt, who had previously accepted
a call to Mitchell, Ontario.
The session rep.ort concluded with a
word of appreciation for the fine ser-
vices rendered by the choir and or-
ganist, also our former organists, Mr,
George Gregg and Mrs. Sheldon
Mann, Others mentioned were the
ladies on the flower committee and
those who prepare the Communion el-
ements, the Sunday School staff, the
leaders of various organizations, and
the caretaker, Mr. Bob Harrison. A
final 'word of appreciation was ex-
pressed by Mr. Ruttan to the new
minister and his wife for their active
interest.
Highlights of the various reports
were as follows: $436.00 was forward-
ed to the Women's Missionary Pres-
byterial by the W.M.S. and the Mis-
sion Mand. The Baby Band had 61
babies for 1952. The Y.PA.I, presented
a lovely baptismal font to the church
old of the proceeds of a play. The
Trail Rangers and Tyro Boys sold 50
United Church calendars, depicting
scenes of missionary activity, The
Woman's Association showed a credit
balance of $1068.00, after having given
$250.00 to the United Church Train-
ing School in Toronto. The Sunday
School sponsored two plays and has
regular monthly meetings of its tea-
chers and officers. The C.G.I.T. held
a lovely Christmas Vesper Service.
The Missionary and Maintenance gifts
amounted to $641.00, an increase over
last year of $43.00. The church trea-
surer reported total receipts of $5,361,
with an increase over last year in en-
velope contributions of over $800. Oth-
er items in the treasurer's report in-
cluded painting the exterior of the
church and improvements to the par-
sonage,• including wiring, plurribing
and insulating. The report, as a
whole, showed a small credit balance
on hand of $21.00, after' all accounts
were paid.
The treasurer, C. W. Walmsley, com-
mented on the fine financial response
made by the whole .congregation. At
the close of the meeting the minister
called on E, J, Farrish, chairman of
the Committee of Stewards to make a
presentation of a bookcase to Mr.
Walmsley from the official board on
behalf of the congregation. Mr, Par-
rish warmly thanked the retiring trea-
surer for his whole-hearted services to
the church and wished he and his
wife continued happiness as they go,
with their family, to their new home
at Simcoe. Mr. Walmsley replied in
a very appreciative speech of accept-
ance. The minister closed the meet-
ing with the benediction. Delicious re-
freshments were served by the ladies
of the Woman's Association.
On Friday evening the Howick
Lions team met the Belmore boys at
at the Belmore Arena. The score was
19-3 in favor of Gorrie. Goal-getters
were: R. Higgins 5, B. Black 2, P.
Strong 2, S. Reid 3, J. Edgar 2, M.
Abram 1, F. McClement and Lorne
Mann 1; for Belmore Peter Newans
2 and Bill Mulvey 1.
Ritchie - Gallaway
A wedding of interest to many in
this community was solemnized on
Saturday, January 10th., at the Pres-
byterian manse, Wingham, by Rev. A.
Nimmo, when Mrs. Annie Gallaway,
Teeswater, formerly of Gorrie, was
united in marriage to Gordon Ritchie.
of Teeswater. They left on a wedding
trip to Toronto.

Annual Congregational Meeting
Held at Gorrie United Church
The annual congregational meeting
of Gorrie United Chureh was held in
the church hall on Friday evening,
January 9th., with the minister, Rev.
4...W. V. Buchanan, presiding, and Mr.
W. Strong as reeording steward.
Two new elders were elected: gr.
Irving Toner and Mr, Harold Hynd-
man. Three new stewards were elect-
ed! K. J. Hueston, A. A, Donnelly and
M.T. Cameron Edgar. One new trustee
was elected, Sandy Edgar. Mrs. Glad.
Edgar was re-elected as canvasser for
the church "Observer" with four as.-

The Woman's . Missionary Society
will meet at the home of Miss Mar-
garet Dane on Thursday, at 8.15 p.m.
Mrs. W. W. Strong and Mrs, A. Tay-

will be installation of officers at this
meeting.

their January meeting on Thursday,
January 15th., at 2,30 p.m., at the
home of Mrs. Fred Hyndman. Pro-

Eleanore Stephens) were honored by
a large gathering In the Community
Hall on Friday evening with a mis-
cellaneous shower, Dancing was en-
joyed to music by the Ferdwieh pr.
chestra.
Woman's Auxiliary
Mrs. Gordon Underwood opened her
home on Wednesday afternoon for the
New Year's meeting of the W. A., of
St. Stephen's Church, when 18 were
in attendance, The ladies worked at
Piecing quilts, For the devotional per-
iod the president, Mrs, Norman Wade,
presided and opened with prayers.
The roll call of which the theme was
the Epiphany or the New Year
brought a good response. Correspon-
dance was read by the sec,-treas., Mrs.
Geo, King, from the Indian Residen-
tial School at Cardston, Alberta, ex-
pressing thanks for the bale sent
them and also stating 'that the Rev.
Mr. Pitts, the principal for the past
four years, had resigned.
