United Church pn Sunday. Rev. M, C.
Parrott, of Crediton, was the special
speaker and preached impressive ser,
mons at both Services. In the evening.
he urged yonng people to assume the
duties of those who are passing on.
The choir, under the direction of Mrs,
W. J. Johnston, sang two anthems,
Mrs. Harold Hamilton, of Wyoming, a
former resident, was guest soloist.
In the morning she sang "I met My
Master, Face to Face", and in the
evening 'Songs of the Old Church
Choir,"
Rally Day
Rally Day was observed at Knox
Presbyterian Church on Sunday, The
superintendent, R. J, McMurray, eon.

were read by Etoile Moffatt and John
Mundell. A junior choir sang an an-
them. John Greenaway and John
Mundell were presented with certi-
ficates for memorizing Scripture. Rev.
Matthew Bailie spoke on the theme,
"Light from the Word of God." He
spoke of the Bible as food and the
vital need to feed, body and soul.
Mitchell Bruce, infant son of Mr. and
Mrs. Mitchell Elliott, was baptized.
Next Sunday communion will be ob-
served. Rev. A, J, Simpson, of Tees-
water, will conduct preparatory ser-
vice,
Newlyweds Feted
Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Stamper were
the guests-of-honour at a social fun-
ction in the Community Hall on Fri-
day night, when a large number of
relatives and friends gathered for the
occasion. The newly weds were escort-
ed to the platform by Alex Corrigan,
while Mrs. Corrigan played "Put on
Your Old Grey Bonnet:: An address
in verse was read by Gordon Mundell
and Jack Horton presented a sum of
money. Mr. Stamper made a suitable
reply. Lunch was served including
bride's cake. Dancing was enjoyed to
music supplied by Tiffin's orchestra.

HANOVER PHONES
CONVERTED FROM CRANK
Months of preparatory work were
climaxed in a few busy 'seconds re-
cently, when Hanover's 1,065 tele-
phones all were converted simultan-
eously from magneto to the hew
"crankless" or common battery sys-
tem of operation.
The actual conversion took place
at 8,00 4.m. An official ceremony for._
many inaugurating the new equip-
ment was held during the afternoon
at the exchange. By that time, the old
magneto switchboard had been dis-
mantled and removed and the new
switchboard was in full opera;tion.
Some 30 civic leaders and dignit-
aries attended the ceremony. Mayor
Eric Winkler officially placed the
first long distance call, using the new
equipment. He called Mr. John Rubin
in Moriteral,—Hanover Post.

no doubt saved Mr, Esser from serious.
Classes were in progress at the time,
but only the students in classrooms.
