The opening fall meeting of the
Woman's Auxiliary was held on Fri.,
day afternoon at the borne of Mrs.
Prank King, with an attendance of
members and 3 visitors. The ladies
Worked at piecing quilts, The devote
tonal meeting opened with singing of
"Breathe on Me Breath of God," and
repeating of the members pray8r. Mrs,
R. T. Bennett and Mrs. G, Underwood
Offered prayer. Roll call Was answered
with a verse on "Service," which was
the theme of the meeting. Mrs. Frank
King read the lesson from psalm 104.
The president, Mrs. N, Wade, intro-
duced the new study book, "Thine is
the Kingdom," The stud book is the
story of the M.S.0,C. of the Church
of England M Canada, since its erig"
inization fifty Years ago. MM. Harry
King read an article on the W, A. in
India. An invitation was received frcan
the Presbyterian to hear an
illustrated address to be given in the
Presbyterian Church, Gorrie, on
Thursday evening, September 18th.,
by Miss Claire Whitelaw, a ,rnission-
ary on furlough from the Belgian
Congo in West Africa, Meeting was
closed with the Litany and benedic-
tion, Refreshments were served by
the hostess, assisted by Mrs, qrnest.
Guest Speaker
Service 'was held at 11, a.m. on Sun-
day morning and was conducted by
the Venerable Archdeacon Smith, of
Belleville, a 'delegate to the General
Synod of the Church of England in
Canada, now in session at London.
He told of tile workings of the General
Synod of his own Diocese, and of the
work of the church in different parts
of the Dominion, His text was from
John 17;21, "That they may all be
one." The service of Holy Communion
will be at the regular hour on Sunday
next at 3,3(7
Returns from Great Britain
Mr, Wesley Cathers of Hamilton,
son of Mr. David Cathers of Wing-
ham, and formerly of Gerrie, has re-
turned from Great Britain, after
spending a month there, He was in
charge of some ninety Sea Cadets,
whom he had trained here, They re-
mained in England for further train-
ing.
Mission Band
The United Church Bluebirds met
on Saturday afternoon in the church
basement. The theme of the meeting
was kindness to our neighbours, "God
sees the little sparrow fall," was sung.
The Scripture was read by Mrs. Ger-
ald Galbraith. The Lord's Prayer was
repeated, Faye Edgar read the minu-
tes, also a thank you letter from Judy
Watt for the Present given her and
the twins from the Mission Band,
Sides were chosen for selling the
Christmas cards. Helen Strong read
the atudY book Story, Barbara Warms-
ley read a verse, Hymn 399 was 'sung,
closing with the Minrall Benediction.
Newly Weds Honoured
Mr, and Mrs, R. G. Nuhn, (nee
Doreen Hutchison) Were honoured by
friends and neighbours at a large
'gathering in the Community Hall on
Monday evening, September 1st., when
they were presented with a chair,
Logal talent provided music for old
tirrie dancing.
Mr. and Mrs, Bert Harris have re-
turned from a visit with relatives at
Huntsville.
Rev, G. De Vegan, Messrs. H, V,
Holmes, Norman Wade, Cliff Dodds,
and Lloyd Jacques, were in London
on Thursday Or the opening sessions
of the General Synod of the Church
of England in Canada. The Very Rev,
W. R. Mathews, Dean of St. Paul's
Cathedral, London, England, was the
preacher for the morning service 'of
Holy Communion in St. Paul's Cathed-
ral. Afternoon meetings were held at
Huron College.
Miss. Jean Snarling will teach this
year at the Ethel schopi; Miss Walker
Of Turnberry, has been engaged to
teach at No. 4 school; Mrs, UM Hun-
stein will attend Normal. School in

Mr, Sam Stinson, while Mr. Hambly
is relieving at the Teeswater and
Gorrie C. P. R. stations.

day. The afternoon was spent at the

services at the Lutheran church in
Milverton on Sunday, Rev, 3. Zim-

Mrs. Michel's, was the guest preacher.

boys of Blyth, visited on Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs, Robt, Harrison,
Miss Joyce Jardine, Reg, N., of Lon-
don, is spending a few days with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jardine.

Mr. Campbell Brown is teaching at
Bluevale school again this year.
Mrs. T. Vittie has spent the past
week visiting with friends in Wind-
sor and in London. F.,''he was accomp-
anied by her daughter, Miss Thelma
Stafford, of Kitchener, who is on va-
cation.
Mr. Harry Ferguson underwent an
operation in Victoria Hospital, Lon-
don, on Friday, Friends will be glad
to know that he is getting along as
well as can be expected and may be
home at the end of the week. ,
