Rev. W. J.V.Buchanan Inducted

On Thursday evening, July 31st, the
Rev. W. 3, V. Buchanan, formerly of
Cooksvile, was inducted into the
Gorrie charge of the United Church
of Canada,
Rev. W. R. Tristram, of Fordwich,
was in charge and conducted the
service. Rev, R. A .Brooke, of Blue-
vale addressed the congregation. Mr.
Leonard Ruttan and Mr. Elmer Far-
rish, spoke on behalf of the session
and accepted the Rev. Mr. Buchanan
on behalf of the congregation. A
reception was held at which Mr.
Farrish introduced Mr. and Mrs.
Buchanan and their son, Kelvin, to
the members of the congregation.
ramily Gathering
A family gathering, numbering
about fifty, was held on Sunday at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sanford
Zimmerman, when members of the
Sotheran family gathered to meet Mrs,
Carl Harris, of Colonsay, Sask., a
daughter of Mr. Wm. Sotheran, Ford-
with, who has been visiting in
Howick township, A feature of the
gathering was a presentation of a
floor lamp to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sim-
mons, Fordwich, whose 25th wedding
anniversary takes place shortly, The
reunion was to have boon held at the
Gorrie park but owing to threatening
weather was held at the Zimmerman
home.
Honored at Shower
Miss Dorothy Edwards, bride-elect
of this month, was guest-of-honor at
a miscellaneous shower given by Mrs,
C. 3, Gibson. Assisting the hostess
were: Mrs. Gerald Galbraith, Mrs. E.
W. Whitfield, Mrs. H, Forman, Mrs.
G. A. Gibson and Mrs, J. H, King.
United Chruch W.M.S.
Mrs. Alex Taylor was hostess for
the W.M.S, on Wednesday evening,
Aug. 6th. The meeting was opened
with the hymn, "Rise up 0 Men of
God". Mrs. Cassie Taylor and Mrs.
Cecil Grainger read the Scripture
readings, after which Mrs, C. Grainger
led in prayer. Mrs. H. Hamilton and
Mrs. H. Ferguson rendered a duet,
"Simply Trusting every day", A paper
on stewardship was taken by Miss
Margaret Dane. Mrs. W. Strong, the
president, took over for the business
period. Arrangements are being made
to secure leadership for the C.G,I.T.
The meeting was closed with the
Lord's Prayer. Lunch was served by
Mrs. H. Hamilton, Mrs. G. Brown,
Mrs. C. Grainger and Mrs. Cassie
Taylor, A social time was spent
among the 20 ladies present.
Mrs. A. L. Stephens spent last week
at her sister's cottage at Orr Lake.
Mrs. Albert Gallagher, Wroxeter,
Mrs. Tom McClement and Mrs. Addie
Jacques spent Friday in Stratford.
Mr. Campbell Brown has returned
from a two week trip to the Mari-
times. He was accompanied by his
cousin, Mr. Clayton Brown, of Ford-
wich.
Mr. and Mrs, Stewart Strong and
baby, Donna Marie, spent Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Art Davies, at
Harriston,
Mrs. Thos. Earl is spending a few
weeks in Toronto at the home of her
son, Mr. Earl Gaong, and Mrs. Gaong,
before leaving to make her home in
Sturgis, Sask,
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Shera visited on
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs, Percy
Copeland, Wroxeter.
Mr. and Mrs, Norman Carson, Mr.
and Mrs. Earl King, Douglas and
Carol spent Sunday at Southampton

Dane at their cottage at Keswick,
Lake Simcoe ,and accompanied Mr.
districts to Parry Sound and Britte.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bolton, London,
spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs.
Cam. Edgar and also. visited with
other old friends.
Miss McEwett, of Cottam, is visiting
with her aunts, the Misses Murray.
