the families represented. Rev, Matt-
hew Bailie conducted an opening
devotional period, reading a portion
of Scripture from the 4th chapter of
Philippians and leading in prayer.

the budget allocation was over sub-
scribed by nearly $25.00. Eldred Nich-
ol, clerk of Session, reported a mem-
bership of 116. R. J. McMurray,
chairman aof the board of managers,
reported that the church shed had
been leased to the Township'of Turn-
berry, to be used as a machinery
store house.
Mrs. Lloyd Felker prepared an en-
couraging account of the W,M.S,
The average attendance at the meet-
ings was 18. The allocation was ex-
ceeded and Life membership certifi-
cates were presented to Mrs. C. H.
MacDonald and Mrs. J. C. Higgins.
Mrs. Harry Elliott reported the "Sun-
day Sehool attendance slightly down.
$23.00 had been given to Missions
and a balance of $32.00 remains,
reporting for the Ladies Aid, the
secretary, Mrs. Harry Elliott reported
the chief project had been the install-
ing of two heavy duty hot plates in
the kitchen and laying floor covering.

Presbyterian Church, Rev. Matthew
Bailie took his text frcrin the 24th
chapter of St. Luke, "Ye shall be
Witnesses unto Me. giving some im-
pressive illustrations of witnessing
for Christ and the result, pointing
out that there are many ppportunities
and no limit to what can be accomp-
lished. The choir pang, • "The Lord

Hospital.

Mrs. Colin Campbell of Goderich, in
the 'township hall, "'Gerrie; and en
Monday 'evening," January 21st,, 1952,
members gathered .for' their 50th. an-
niversary' celebration in the same
hall. Husbands and three past presi-
dents -were guesta at 'a'f.urkey ban-
quet, served beladies of the Anglican
church.'
'Tables were lovely "in gold nnd
mauve trimmings with a birthday
cake centring the head -table. Ladies
Were' presented with ePrsages. The
president Mrs. Percy Ahlaton, welcom-
ed guests and told of the work of the
Institute, of the first officers. Mrs.
Acheson Laird,, president and Mrs.
'(Dr.)' Jas. Armstrong, Mrs, Wm. Has-
'tie, 'Gorrie, Mrs, Victor Shera,
Moorefield, ''and Mrs. Mel Taylor,
Gorrie, all past preSidents, spoke
briefly. Mrs. C. D. Walmsley, sec.,
read a letter from 'Mrs. Vera Gregg,

Activities, of the Institute lave in-
cluded purchasing of a piano, 1909"
and again in 1937' for the hall, Union
Jack for the flagpole at hall, plant-
ing of trees in Victoria Park, cur-
tains and track for. -hall, boxes for
boys and girls in armed forces dur-
ing first and second world wars, re-
membering sick and, shut-ins, equip-
ment for Ititchen of community hall,
including dishes, cutlery and glass-
ware, and sponsoring Home Econo-
mic Courses for girls.
A draw was Made ,for five ,rites,
Mrs. Norman Gadcke;lurray Edgar;
Jack Hutchison, Wm. C. King and
Art Stephens held the lucky tickets.
The rest of the evening was spent in
playing euchre. Mrs P. Ashton held
the high score for ladies. Art Step-
hens and Vic Share tied for men's
prize, Art Stephens winning the draw.
All present felt that a very memor-
able evening had been spent.
Legion Auxiliary
The regular monthly meeting of the
Ladies' Auxiliary to the Howick
Legion was held in the Legion rooms
in Gorrie on Monday evening, Janu-
ary 21st with the president Comrade
H. Roberts in the chair. There was
a good attendance and four new
members joined and were installed
by Comrade S. Austin. It was decid-
ed to send a box to Comrade 'Mabel
Newton in hospital in Chatham. Plans
were made for a card party to be
held later on with Comrade Musgrove
convener, After the meeting the men
joined, the ladies for a• social half
hour and lunch.
United Church •
At the morning service on Sunday,
pupils of the Sunday SchoOl received
gold pins and certificates, for regular
attendance for fifty-two Sundays.

presentations to the following: Bob

Hockey
Colder weather was more favorable
for hockey 'games last week. In the
W.O.A.A. Intermediate B and C at,
Belmore Monday night, Jan. 21,
Gorrie played With Belmore, Gorrie
winning 8-1. Again in Belmore on
Thursday night Gorrie met Ayton
when the score was Ayton 6, Gor-
rie 3. -
In Fordwich, Monday night, Jan.
21st, Howick Lions Midgets met Bel-
grave. After 10 minutes overtime
score was Gorrie 7; Belgrave 5. Wed-
nesday night in the Gorrie Arena
Howick Lions again scored a victory
over Teeswater 6-3.
Gorrie Pee Wees played Wednes-
day afternoon and evening in the
local rink winning over Bluevale in
the afternoon and losing to Ford-
with in the evening.

The, Gorrie United Young People's
Union attended a skating party held
by the Wroxeter Young People's
Union last Wednesday night. Pleas-
ure skating and ice games directed
by Ron McMichael were enjoyed by
all, as was the lunch' which was later
served in the Sunday ,School room of
the church.
The Young People's Union will
meet this Sunday night at the home
of Anna Toner. The convener in
charge is Roy Bridge. All young
people fifteen years of age and over
are invited to attend.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Jacques and
family, La,kelet visited Sunday at
the home of Mr. George Dane Sr.,
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Dodds were
in Stratford on Tuesday to attend the
funeral of Mrs. Dodd's aunt, Mrs.
John McCloy, the former Sarah
Walters and a one-time resident of
Howick. Mrs. McCloy was in her
83rd year.
Mrs. Verne Hambly, Brian and
Wendy, Fergus visited last week with
Miss Pearl and Mr. Sam Stinson,
Mrs. Bella Greaves of Fordwich
was a guest of Mrs. Robt. 'Dane for
several days last week.
Miss Myrtle Short is visiting with
her brother Mr. Lawrence Short and
Mrs. Short in Fergus.
Mrs. Clara Ritchie visited her
daughter, Mrs. Bob Mitchell, Moles-
worth, last week.
Mrs. Jean MacDonald visited in
Caledonia on Sunday afternoon.

Saskatchewan visited on Tuesday
