CHSS Music Club gives annual Christmas concert Nov. 28 The halls of Central Huron Secondary School, Clinton, will. once again be ringing with “The Sound of Music” when the Music Club presents their annual Christ­ mas Concert on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. Entertainment Worse for wear William Hutt feels theef fects of an extra-long cocktail hour in the play of the same name that opened at The Grand Theatre in London Friday. Hutt plays the father of a playwright who announces he’s writing a play about the family, causing great consternation and soul searching in the family. Theatre review quality singing. Also featured will be the Junior, Senior and concert bands and jazz band under the capable leadership of Hugh McGregor. The bands will be performing a number of popular and Christmas pieces. Before and after the concert, the audience can spend some time browsing through the art display presented by the talented art students at CHSS under the guid­ ance of Ron Walker. The cocktail hour this evening drags on because a cook who has been brought in especially for the evening, is bungling her way through the kitchen and as the members of the family drink more, they say more about their real feelings. William Hutt blusters and flust- Laughter served for ‘Cocktail Hour’ BY KEITH ROULSTON To describe “The Cocktail Hour” that opened at the Grand Theatre in London Friday night, you might borrow from a cocktail recipe: take a witty script filled with moments that are sometimes bitter and sometimes sweet, add four fabulous performances and shake well and you’ve got a play with plenty of punch. The Cocktail Hour is one of those plays that surprises you with its success. With only four characters and one set you keep thinking that even if you’ve liked what you’ve seen so far, you’re likely to find boredom just around the comer but playwright A. R. Gurney, aided by superb performances from the cast, never lets the boredom set in. Instead the time speeds by and the play is over before you know it. The play is about a middle-aged playwright John, (Peter Hutt) who has returned to his home in an upstate New York city to tell his family his newest play is based on them. The play, also called “The ers around the stage as the father who wonders why his son has to carry on such a silly “hobby” as playwrighting when he has a perfectly good job in publishing. He worries about his way of life being ridiculed in the play.
