Some of theCrusadersmoveinon thepuckafter it was dropped by the Grand Valley goaltender in this first period action at Saturday night’s home game. The Crusaders came on strong, scoring two goals in the first few minutes, then were held back until the second period. They ended the game defeating the Grand Valley team by a score of 8-3. On Friday night the Crusaders travelled to Wellesley for a game with the merchants. Brussels opened the scoring a little over seven minutes into the period when Jeff Espensen conver­ ted a pass from David Mont­ gomery. The first period ended with the Crusaders holding a 1-0 lead. Wellesley came back to tie the game up at one just eight minutes into the second period. The Crusa­ ders regained the lead three min­ utes later when Brian Campbell and Dave Stephenson combined to set up Ken Cousins for the goal. The Merchants, however, scored the next three goals to take a 4-2 lead after two periods of play. After three minutes of play in the third, Brussels cut the lead to one when Ken Cousins and Dave Harding set up David Montgomery for the goal. But unfortunately that was as close as they got as Wellesley added four more un­ answered goals to make the final score 8-3 in their favour. On Saturday night the Crusaders were at home to play host to the Grand Valley Tornados. Brussels opened the scoring just a minute and a half into the period when Ken Higgins and Paul Mont­ gomery combined to set up Kevin Deitner for his first goal of the game. The Crusaders increased their lead to two just a couple minutes later when Ken Cousins and Paul Robinson sent Dave Stephenson in for the score. The first period ended with Brussels holding a 2-0 lead. The second period started with Grand Valley cutting the lead to one, just two and a half minutes Continued on page 17 Blyth Atoms lose 2 The Blyth Atoms took their modest, three game winning streak on the road, Wednesday, Novem­ ber 14, and watched it come to a quick end. Hensall out-skated a flat Blyth team and displayed great passing abilities, running up a five goal lead into the second period. Jeff Cowan got Blyth on the scoring sheet late in the second. In the third, play evened out a little more, Hensall scoring the only goal of the period, to end the game with a 6-1 victory. Scott Bromley stopped a lot of rubber in the net for Blyth, facing a strong Hensall team. The Blyth Atoms lost their second game of the hockey season on Saturday, November 17, by the close margin of 5-4, for Zurich. Once again Blyth came out flat and found themselves down 4-1 at the end of the second period. But Blyth caught fire in the third, outscoring the Zurich team and coming back with a quick three goals. Zurich also came up with one, leaving Blyth one goal short. The final score was Blyth 4 and Zurich 5. Shane Burkholder did the goaltend­ ing duties for Blyth this game, coming out with a solid perform­ ance. The Blyth goals went to Jeff Cowan, adding a hat-trick to his credit, and Darryl Bromley.
