The Citizen, 1990-10-24, Page 13Bulls split weekend action The Bulls hosted the Grand Valley Harvesters Friday night at home. Grand Valley opened the scoring at 18:17 as Paul Downey scored on a pass from Jason Shepherd and Aaron Downey. Grand Valley open­ ed a two goal lead as Ron Cougher scored on a scramble in front of the net on a pass from Darryl Rooney and Pete Isreal at 8:48. The Bulls finally got on the score sheet as Steve Fritz scored an unassisted goal at 7:35. But the Valley got that goal back at 1:10 as Steve Schnitti scored from Rob McCoy and Paul Downy. The visitors skated into the second period with a 3-1 lead. The Bulls cut the lead as Craig King scored from Bevin Flett and Steven Vandendool at 11:09. Fifteen se­ conds later Ron Strome scored on a pass from Paul Brophy and Jamie Gibbings to tie the score at 3. The Bulls’ Corey McKee got a power play marker from Brett Long and Jeff McKee at 3:12. Grand Valley tied the score at 1:10 as Darryl Rooney scored from Paul Downey and Jason Shepherd. At 7:07 of the third Brett Long scored on a pass from Jeff McKee and Steven Michie. The Bulls completed the scoring at 5:29 on a goal by Ron Strome from Steve Fritz and Craig King. Scott Thede faced 20 shots in the game for the Bulls, as the Bulls outshot Grand Valley 26 to 20 to win their fifth game of the season 6-4. Sunday’s game against the Han­ over Barons promised to be a real nail biter. The Bulls scored the first goal Sunday with a power play marker as Steven Vandendool scored from Marty Rutledge at 18:08. The Barons got that goal back at 4:39 as Kevin Sutter blasted a shot past Bull’s goalie Jeff Roy from Bruce Angel and Dan Neil. The first period ended in a 1-1 tie. Hard hitting and fast skating carried on into the second period. Jeff McKee scored the> Bulls’ second power play goal of the game on a pass from Steve Michie and Corey McKee. The Barons came charging back with a goal at 15:33 as Bill Spielmaker scored on a pass from Joel Lann and Dan McCormick. Hanover took the lead at 10:27 as Chris Karcher scored from Dan Neil. The second period ended with the visiting team holding a one goal lead. The third period started fast and furious as end-to-end action. Han­ over scored their fourth goal of the game at 5:37 as Bill Spielmaker scored his second goal of the game on a pass from Stacey Becker and Troy McHarg. The Bulls came flying back eight seconds later as Ron Strome scored on a pass from Steven Vandendool and Paul Bro­ phy. However, that was the last goal of the game as Hanover handed the Bulls for their first loss of the year 4-3. Chris Cooper won the Bulls’ first door prize of the year as Chris was the 500th fan this year and received a Bulls’ lawn chair. The Bulls’ next game will be Sunday, Oct. 28 against the Walkerton Black Hawks at 2 p.m. Mark Nov. 16 on your calendars as the Brussels Bulls meet the player night from 8 - 9 p.m. followed by dancing to Jamie Hammond Disc Jockey from 9 to 1 a.m. Tickets on sale by calling 887-9289 at $5 per ticket. Forest 5 Walkerton 5 Grand Valley 5 Drug Education Awareness theme of county PA Day Drug Education Awareness is the theme for the Huron County Board of Education’s Professional Activity Day, on Friday, October 26, at Central Huron Secondary School. Approximately 700 teachers and administrators, as well as interest­ ed citizens, will attend a full day of presentations and workshops as part of the Huron County Board’s ongoing in-service initiative in drug education begun in April, 1989. The key-note address during the morning session will be given by Dick O’Brien from the Council on Drug Abuse. Individual school staffs will meet during the final session of the day to begin forming their school action plans. Further in-service sessions will take place in November at each school. During the spring of 1991, additional in-depth training for administration, school representa­ tives and counsellors will take place. Also in the spring, school staffs will get together in regions to share action plans. Following that, the board will develop a Board Drug Education Policy in this area for the fall of 1991. Sports lily t h’s skating season starts On October 16 and October 19 Blyth Figure Skating youngsters eagerly raced onto the ice for their first lesson of the 1990-91 season. The club is very happy to once again have Brenda Tyndall and Michelle Blake as its Professional coaches. The club this year regis­ tered approximately 75 children who either take part in power or figure skating.
