Mr. and Mrs. Art Fielding of
London visited with Melda Mc
Elroy last Saturday after seeing the
play “Local Talent” which they
thoroughly enjoyed.
Joanne as a little girl, lived in
Blyth with her parents, Dave and
Gertrude Hynds. Her grandmother
and step-grandfather were the late
Ethel and Leonard Cook, a highly
respected couple of this commun
ity.
Last Sunday, Ted and Jayne

Improvements
While Blyth village council will
go ahead with patching of Morris
St. this year councillors are looking
at a major rebuilding of the street
in the long run it was revealed at
the August 28 meeting of council.
Clerk-treasurer Helen Grubb
raised the issue, saying council
should perhaps be looking at
seeking additional grants from the
Ministry of Transportation over
several years for a program to
rebuild the road. Councillor Steven
jparling agreed something had to
be done saying that some of the
places where the road has broken
up “are pretty nasty”.
Reeve Albert Wasson said there
is a question of whether there is a
proper roadbed under the current
street. Mrs. Grubb said an engi-
a large audience. He is on Sabbati
cal leave this year to complete his
studies for his doctorate degree in
theology which he hopes to obtain
in 1991. The first two years of the
Blyth Festival Rev. Ted and Rev.
Fred Carson of Trinity Anglican
Church were members of the
Theatre Board.
Mrs. Clara Rinn reports that she
had a “whee” of a time last week
when she was guest of her daugh
ter Edythe and Elvey Rock of RR 3,
Monkton. Each day they were on
the go visiting friends and relatives
in eight localities: Mitchell, her
home until she married; Stratford,
Brunner, Brodhagen, Kirkton,
home of her granddaughter Joanne
Foster; Monkton, Brussels and
Atwood.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Johnson of
London visited with her parents
Alvin and Gene Snell on Labour
Day weekend. They attended the
50th Anniversary celebration of
Shirley’s aunt and uncle, Ernest
and Anna Snell. They also visited
other relatives.
discussed
neer looking at the project feels the
road needs to be dug out and a new
road bed put in. Reeve Wasson
said he couldn’t recall that street
ever having been dug out and
re-filled.
Councillor Sparling pointed out
the street gets a lot of heavy truck
traffic. Mrs. Grubb pointed out the
road had been designated a main
collector road in the new five-year
review of the official plan for the
village. She said the engineer had
recommended that council consider
curb and gutters for the street
when it is rebuilt. It will make the
road stand up better, she said.
In the meantime, Reeve Wasson
said, the patch jobs on the street
would serve to a certain extent as
test holes to see just what the road
bed is like under the street.
