My Canada is many things If the weather ever warms up, these Brussels lifeguards are ready to watch over you at the BMG pool. In front are, from left, Judy TenPas, Corinna Stephenson and Shannon Rice. On the chair are Kim Fritz, seated, and Karla King. Continued from page 4 and much of the world; a vast expanse of golden wheat on the prairies moving like ocean waves across the land; men operating a dragline dredging oil sands in the north; and children playing ice hockey on back yard rinks across Canada, each with aspirations to some day being a great star. My Canada is the skyline of tall buildings in our great Canadian cities with people rushing to and from work; their various jobs each forming a small cog in our indus trial and commercial wheels that keep our great land revolving day by day; the beauty of our great north land with its tall trees, rocks, minerals and quiet wilderness. My Canada is the sound of school children on the playground at recess; the mighty thunder of Niagara Falls with its mist and whirlpool below; the boom of the “Snow Birds” as they roar over head at an air show; the first cry of a newborn baby; the babble of family’s voices; the united accents of an assembly singing, “O Canada”; a grandmother relating an age-old tale to her grandchild ren at twilight. My Canada is the smell of summer rain; the scent of new mown hay; the perfume of spring blossoms and the sniff of a fruit orchard in autumn. My Canada is in the colour of wild flowers in our pastures and on mountain slopes; a garden party or June graduation and a school prom; the R.C.M.P.’s musical ride; the sparkling eyes of our children as they discover Canada and the world with fresh enthusiasm; a troupe in full native dress perform ing a culture dance; sunset on the Pacific and sunrise on the Cabot Trail. My Canada is in the solemnity of its tributes to our forefathers; the NOW AVAILABLE 5 km. east of Lucknow on Hwy. 86 Hours: Monday to Friday 8-8 Saturday 8-5 Weather and crop supply permitting PHONE 528-2900 jargon of not only English and French but many languages inheri ted from ancestors of different cultures; the grandeur of its parks and playgrounds; the dedication to heroes, like the Terry Fox statue at Thunder Bay and its compassion for supporting the poor and less fortunate throughout the world. Our Canada has to survive; we must respect our past for without remembering, we shall have no future. Councillors support postmasters Blyth village councillors have voted to support a resolution from the Canadian Post Masters and Assistants Association calling for a halt of conversion of post offices to retail postal outlets. The resolution is to be debated at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario convention in Toronto next month. The postmasters associa tion, which services smaller post offices in communities like Blyth, Brussels and other villages, wants a halt of the closing of post offices and putting their services into retail outlets. Council voted to support the resolution so it would at least be debated at AMO. “In rural com munities the post office is part of the community,” Councillor Steven Sparling said. “When you lose the post office you lose something.” Council also voted to support a resolution from the city of Stratford calling for support of sale of area railways to the Midwestern Ontario Rail Company. CN Rail has said it will sell off area railways including the Stratford-Goderich line and Midwestern Ontario Rail has been attempting to form a short-line rail service to serve various communi ties in the area west of Kitchener- Waterloo and north of London.
