There were 400 slaughter cattle Farm Horse care, 4H topic BY SARAH LAMBLE The Belgrave Animal Friends 4H club, welcomed Donna Anderson from Spring Creek horse facilities, Wingham, to Isabel Campbell’s home and farm, on June 8. Before the club proceeded with meetings two and three, members gathered in Campbell’s barn and listened as Donna talked about important points when owning a horse. She mentioned the main things needed for a horse: food, water, shelter, space, waste dis­ posal area, time and money. Mem­ bers learned how to clean the animals feet and how to put on a bridle and saddle. Also she dis­ cussed many small things about taking care of a horse, such as bedding and grooming. 6 building permits approved by East Wawanosh Council An all-risk coverage clause has been added to the insurance policy for the Belgrave Community Cen­ tre Board, following the June 6 meeting of East Wawanosh Coun­ cil. Council notified the Ontario Municipal Insurance Brokers on behalf of the board to add the coverage on two dugouts, pavillion, contents and lights against car impact, lightning, wind and van­ dalism at a cost of $174. A demolition permit was issued to Audrey and Bill Fenton of North Part Lot 31, Cone. 4 for the removal of a pig bam. Building permits were issued to Barry Logan, Part Lot 34, Cone. 9, subject to approval from Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA), for a workshop and shed; Jim Campbell, Part Lot 31, Cone. 5, greenhouse and stor­ age shed; George Cull, Part Lot 33, Cone. 8, machinery and storage shed; John Cull, Part Lot 33, Cone. 8, residence, subject to approval from Huron County Planning De­ partment, MVCA and the Health Belgrave Miles down Fordwich Belgrave mite boys played an excellent game at home June 14 defeating Fordwich 17-7. Three steers consigned by John Dorsch, RR 5, Brussels averaged 1077 lbs. After learning a lot from her, members thanked Donna and pre­ sented her with a certificate and thank you note and had a picture taken. Soon they got comfortable in Isabel’s home and finished off meeting 2 with the pledge and a discussion on pet food. Each member took a turn reading and they started the next meeting with roll call. The topic for this meeting was cleaning and grooming your pet. From the readings they learned how to comb out tangles and groom your pet, all about nail, hoof, beak and teeth trimming and also about cleaning ears. Then they focused on bath time and clean-up. Some time was spent on housing and the meeting was closed.
