The Citizen, 1990-06-20, Page 19RUTABAGA FESTIVAL, PAGE A7 Blyth Rutabaga Festival ’90 The people behind it all Behind the first Blyth Rutabaga Festival is a whole team of people who volunteered their time and talents to make the event a success. John Elliott is the chairman of the Blyth Rutabaga Festival Committee. Jim Wilson is treasurer and Jane Gardner acts as secretary and unofficial promotion mana­ ger. Ruth Dougherty, wife of Russell Dough­ erty, a pioneer in the rutabaga industry, is honorary chairperson. George and Marion Hubbard are King and Queen of the event. Dave Williams chairs the Gong Show committee which includes Elaine Scrim- geour, Gwen Papple, Dianne Josling, Linda Stewart and Keith Roulston. Bev Elliott chairs the souvenir commit­ tee with Lynne Logue, Ruth Webster, and Laurie Sparling assisting. Betty Battye and Al Sygrove make up the school’s committee. Dave Williams chairs the parade com­ mittee with Paul Josling and the Blyth Fire Department and Doug Whitmore helping organize the parade and Linda Stewart and Sue Wilson manning the registration desk. Don Scrimgeour, Tom Cronin, John Battye, Mildred Ament, Brenda Finlayson and Paul Josling are helping co-ordinate the activities. Don Stewart chairs the sports commit­ tee. Diane Wasson chairs the churches/baking contest committee. Other committee members are Thelma Wilson, Bill Gauley, Helen Grubb, Rick Aylseworth, Nan Gore, Al Donaldson, Deanna Snell, Valerie Pitman, Lewis Pitman, Ray Hallahan, Doug Whitmore, Valerie Gauley, Donna Govier, Joe Chat­ terton, Joanne MacDonald, John Stadel- mann, Paul Kerr and Steve Howson. Participating organizations include Blyth Lions Club, Blyth Public School, Blyth and District Fire Department, Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association, Blyth Legion Auxiliary and the Junior Farmers.
