Obituaries FRANK THOMAS RUTLEDGE A life-long resident of Brussels, Frank Thomas Rutledge, died Fri­ day, May 18, 1990 at Seaforth Community Hospital following a short battle with cancer. He was 69. He married the former Doreen McLellan on August 2, 1947 at a ceremony in Egmondville. He was educated in Brussels and was employed for some years as a truck driver then as a labourer until his retirement 15 years ago. Mr. Rutledge was a veteran of World War II having served over­ seas with the army tank regiment. He belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 218 and was a member of the Melville Presby­ terian Church. Besides his wife, Mr. Rutledge will be mourned by his sons John of Goderich and Gerald of Ethel. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Cleo Rutledge of Yale, Michigan and Kitty Rutledge of Brussels. He was predeceased by his parents, and two brothers, Jack of Port Huron, Michigan and Hartley of Brussels. A special Legion memorial ser­ vice was held on Sunday evening at 9. Funeral services were conducted on May 21 from the Betts Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with Rev. Carolyn McAvoy officiating. Interment was at Brussels Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were: Ted Elliott, Ross Bennett, Gordon Workman, Frank Workman, Don­ ald Dunbar, and Frank McCut­ cheon. As expressions of sympathy don­ ations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Royal Cana­ dian Legion, Brussels Branch. MARY ADELLA [McINNES] FISCHER Mary Adella (Mclnnes) Fischer of Listowel and formerly of Cran- brook, passed away at Caressant Care Nursing Home, Listowel on Wednesday, May 23, 1990 in her 77th year. Della Fishcer is survived by her husband Stanley of Listowel; one son, Carman and his wife Evelyn of Etobicoke; two grandchildren James and Heather of Etobicoke and one brother Stuart Mclnnes of Seaforth. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Florence (Armstrong) and William Mclnnes. The family of the late Della Fischer received friends at the Kevin E. Brown Funeral Home, McLaughlin and Reed Chapel, 285 Elizabeth St. W., Listowel on Thursday, May 24, 1990 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service was held from the funeral home on Friday, May 25 at 2 p.m. Commital in Brussels Cemetery. Memorial donations to Knox Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be gratefully appre­ ciated as expressions of sympathy. CELIA TAYLOR Celia Rosella Taylor of Goderich (formerly of Auburn) died at Alex­ andra Marine and General Hospital on Monday, April 30. She was 87 years old. Mrs. Taylor was retired from her position as proprietor of Taylor’s General Store in Auburn. She was a member of St. George’s Anglican Church (Goderich), and a charter member and Past Matron of the Bluewater Chapel No. 284 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also belonged to the Mission Group of St. George’s Anglican Church and was a life member of the Women’s Institute. Mrs. Taylor was a member of the Historical Society and interested in geneo- logical research, having written books on the Hamilton/McCann, Feagan and Taylor families. She also wrote books of music and poetry. Mrs. Taylor was a past member of St. George’s Choir and the MacKay Choristers. Before moving to Goderich, she was the church organist at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Auburn for more than 40 years. In 1988 Mrs. Taylor was awarded an Ontario Volunteer Service Award. Born in Colborne Township on Nov. 23, 1902, she was the daugh­ ter of David and Carmina (Church) Hamilton. She married Gordon Taylor, who predeceased her. Mrs. Taylor is survived by a daughter, Marion and her husband Ronald Rathwell of Simcoe. Also surviving are two sisters: Reta Morley of Ailsa Craig and Viola Hendy of Exeter; and three brothers: Reg Hamilton of Auburn, Norman Hamilton of Goderich and Ben Hamilton of Goderich. She is also survived by grand­ children Michael Rathwell of Ed­ monton and Janice and her hus­ band Ranko Dragojlov of Oakville. The Bluewater Chapter No. 284 of the Order of the Eastern Star held a service Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. The funeral service was held at St. George’s Anglican Church in Goderich on Thursday, May 3, with the Rev. Peter Baldwin of St. George’s Anglican Church officiat­ ing. Pallbearers were Arnold An­ drews, Les Morley, Gordon Raith- by, Paul Raithby, Philip Clark and Jay Poulter. Interment Ball’s Cemetery in Auburn. JAMES T. SMALL James T. Small passed away at this residence in Clinton on May 17, 1990. He was 56 years of age. Born in Mornington Township, Mr. Small also resided for a time in Dublin. He was married to the former Doreen Harkes, who sur­ vives him. Mr. Small worked on the maintenance department of the Ministry of Transportation. Left to mourn his passing are his daughter Debbie, (Mrs. Rod) An­ sley of Blyth; his father, Wesley Small of Wroxeter, and seven grandchildren. He was the dear father-in-law of Mary Lou Small of Dublin. Also surviving are three sisters: Irene (Mrs. Harold) Gabel of Elmira; Ellen (Mrs. Floyd) Schmidt of St. Jacobs; Myrtle (Mrs. Cecil) Marshall of Kitchener; a brother Glen and his wife Annie of Petrolia and a step-brother Bart and his wife May Pike of Stratford. Mr. Small was predeceased by his mother, the former Mary Dyumi- chuk and a step-brother George Pike. Funeral services were conducted from the Beattie-Falconer Funeral Home - Tasker Chapel in Blyth on Saturday, May 19 with Rev. David Snihur officiating. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery in Listowel. This is a two day professional development course, scheduled for July 4 and 5, 1990 at the Elm Hurst Inn, Ingersoll, Ontario for farm managers. The course examines the principles related to agricul­ tural personnel management. The purpose is to provide farm opera­ tors with up-to-date information on how to attract, keep and motivate farm employees. Special features of the two-day workshop include: practical con­ tent, intensive sessions, and rele­ vant agricultural labour examples.
