The recent annual meeting of the Huronia Branch of the Ontario Humane Society, held in Clinton, had the biggest attendance it’s ever had since its conception in 1982. Rick Koury, chief inspector from the Ontario Humane Society head office in Newmarket was the guest speaker. Koury emphasized there is no room for radicals in the society and stressed radical groups do not benefit the animal welfare movement. He provided an histori­ cal overview of the humane society in Ontario and stated there would be no Humane Society without people involvement at the grass roots level. The new executive of the Hur­ onia Branch for 1990 is: President, Heather McDougall; Vice Presi­ dent, Maryann Hollenbeck; Secre­ tary, Harriet Shillinglaw; Treasur­ er, Jean Fox. Obituaries M. ETHEL DENNIS Ethel Dennis of Seaforth died Thursday, April 19, 1990 at Univer­ sity Hospital in London. She was 83. Born in McKillop Township on April 20, 1906, she was the daughter of the late John S. Dennis and the former Mary Ross. She resided with family on the home farm in McKillop until 1969 when they retired to Seaforth. Throughout her life, Miss Dennis was very involved in church and community activities, including the Hospital Auxiliary, and she took particular enjoyment in knitting and quilting. She is lovingly remembered by a brother, Elmer Dennis of Seaforth; a sister, Jessie, and her husband Stanley Hillen of Seaforth; a sister- in-law Pearl, Mrs. Cameron Dennis of North Bay; and many nieces, and nephews, cousins and friends. Miss Dennis was predeceased by a twin sister Oral who died in infancy, a sister Christena (Ten- nie), brothers Lome, Alex, Wil­ fred, Cameron and William. Friends called at the Whitney- Ribey Funeral Home in Seaforth on Friday, and the funeral service was held on Saturday, April 21 with the Rev. Cheryl-Anne Stadlebauer- Sampa officiating. Spring inter­ ment will be in Brussels Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bert Dennis, Keith Tolton, Hal Gaertner, Bruce Whitmore, Larry Hubert, Murray Dennis, Don Dennis and Don Pletch. Flowerbearers were Leanne Whitmore, Sean Dennis, Sherri Gaertner and Matthew Hubert. ELLEN [NELLIE] VIOLA KING Nellie King of Gorrie died April 22, 1990 at the Wingham and District Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Howick town­ ship, 72 years ago and attended S.S. No. 4, Howick. She was employed at Fordwich Nursing Home for many years. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Gorrie and was a member of the Guild of the church. She married Harry King on Oct. 19, 1940. He predeceased her in Nov. 1966. She is survived by two children: Wayne King, RR 1, Gorrie and Judy Shortreed, RR 3, Walton. A brother, Carl Dinsmore, RR 1 Gorrie and a sister, Edith Lockridge, also survive. The funeral took place from St. Stephen’s Church, Gorrie on April 24 with Rev. Brenda Clark officiat­ ing. Interment was in Gorrie Ceme­ tery. Serving as pallbearers were Jeff Lockridge, Peter Dinsmore, Doug King, Craig King, Jim Shortreed and Robert Shortreed. Flowerbear­ ers were Carey King, Trevor King, Kendra Shortreed and Amy Short­ reed. Pets ‘R’ Us meet BY KARLA STACEY On Friday, April 20 Pets “R” Us met at Wilkinson’s house for meeting number three. The meeting was about groom­ ing your pet. Members learned what kind of animals need what kinds of brushes. Later they groom­ ed Max, the Wilkinson’s dog. They also did a taste test on cookies.
