Little guys doing their part to save environment
Continued from page 5
instructed my children to turn off
the tap while brushing their teeth
and to think about what they want
to eat or drink before they open the
fridge door. I wash my tin cans and
remove the labels from them. I
bundle by newspapers, don’t burn
leaves and my children are trying
to pack themselves litterless lunch
es. And I’m willing to make more
changes around my home, yet after
all this the soft drink bottlers (and
other manufacturers as well) say
too often that it’s up to us. They’re
not going to do anything, it’s our
choice.
Well, frankly I think I have
enough on my plate. With almost
everyone in society today becoming
more sensitive to the critical condi
tion of our planet and taking what
steps they can to minimize the
damage I don’t understand how the
bottlers of soft drinks can justify
their minimal use of refillable
bottles.

overcome by big guys.
I watched the Earth Day special
on television on April 22 and I was
appalled and frightened by some of
the information related to us. It’s
easy living in a rural community to
not fully comprehend the atrocities
that are being committed against
‘‘Mother Earth” and the impact
they are having, I guess, but we are
developing a conscience about
environmental concerns. Now, isn’t
it time that some of the major
contributors to the problem did the
same?
After all if a little guy like myself
can make a difference, just think
what the big guys can do.
