People Mr. and Mrs. Keith Snell of Swastika visited her mother Mary Campbell and other relatives in the vicinity over Easter. Mr. and Mrs. Carman McPher­ son of Clinton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, April 13, 1990 at the home of John and Vera Hesselwood with the immediate relatives present. Easter guests with John and Vera Hesselwood were Ken Mc- Vittie, Bonnie and Karen Witte, Gord Mayhew, Travis Brown, all of London, Doug, Kathy, David and Christina McVittie of Burlington, Randy McVittie and Helen Tritchell of Toronto. Mary and Lloyd Walden enter­ tained family members on Sunday. There were 20 present. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Timpany of Aylmer visited with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Snell of Blyth, on Sunday. At a local church last Sunday, the Church Bulletin’s contents includ­ ed a notice of the Rutabaga weekend in June. Among 23 activi­ ties is the Rutabaga Baking Con­ test. Ladies are asked to put on their thinking caps as to what to bake for this unique Community event. Resourceful, creative cooks will begin very soon to experiment and come up with their best, very own recipe. The end result will doubt­ less look interesting, taste delicious and be most rewarding. Others may begin searching in recipe books for what seems the perfect combination of ingredients to capture to the fullest degree the tempting flavour of turnip. Oh, oh! Sorry for the slip. The word turnip must never be confused with Rutabaga which is a Swedish or Table Turnip with emphasis on “Table”. The personnel at the Ministry of Ariculture and Food, Clinton office, will be glad to give you, among other pamphlets on Rutabaga Cul­ ture, one with seven government tested Rutabaga recipes: Rutabaga Ragout, Rutabaga Muffins, Ruta­ baga-Squash Casserole, Rutabaga- Carrot Julienne Salad, Rutabaga Appleslaw, Rutabaga Soup and Rutabaga Puff for which see recipe below: RUTABAGA PUFF 1 rutabaga [1 kg.], cubed [750 ml.] 2 eggs, separated 250 ml. applesauce 45 ml. melted butter 15 ml. brown sugar 2 ml. salt 1 ml. nutmeg dash white pepper Cook and mash rutabaga. Beat egg yolks. Add rutabaga, apple­ sauce, melted butter, brown sugar, salt, nutmeg and pepper. Combine thoroughly. Beat egg whites until stiff. Fold into rutabaga mixture. Pour into greased casserole dish. Bake at 180°C (350°F.) for 50 minutes. Makes 4 to 6 servings. Region members honoured BY BOB McINNES Zone C-l of the Royal Canadian Legion held an Honours and Awards banquet March 31 at Goderich. Dave Overboe and Clare Vincent from Blyth Legion #420 were presented with their past officers medals and bars for their contribution to the Legion through their service. At the last meeting of Blyth Legion a motion was passed to donate $150 to the District C Child Video Program, to donate $50 to the Vanastra Recreation Centre to help purchase pool equipment, to donate $50 to Easter Seals, to donate $50 to Epilepsy Huron- Perth-Bruce, to donate $500 to Parkwood Hospital District C, and to donate $1,0.00 to Blyth Scouts, Cubs and Beavers Groups. Blgth hosts Historical Societg meeting Blyth will host the general meeting of the Huron County Historical Society Wednesday Wht "■*<iuest speaker for the meeting will be Allison Lobb who will speak on researching family histories. Admission is free. The meeting takes place at the Blyth Legion at 8 p.m. Card players win prizes Twelve tables were in play at the weekly Monday night euchre party at Blyth Memorial Hall April 9. Kay Konarski and Mary Holland had the high scores. Roberta Simpson and Clara Rinn had the low scores. Alberta Stevens and Ruth Fisher had the most lone hands. Erma Crich won the special prize. At the lost heir card party Wednesday night, Nora Kelly and Phyllis Boak had the high scores. Clara Rinn and Bert Daer had the low scores. Graeme McDowell won the special prize.
