Plans shaping up for Brussels Fun Fest Plans for another summer week­ end of fun in Brussels are again underway as service clubs, busi­ nessmen and committee organizers prepare for the second annual FunFest to be held in the village on the weekend of July 6, 7, and 8. Several of the events and activi­ ties were finalized at the meeting held in the Community Centre on April 11, and committee chairman Wayne Lowe says that it is hoped that things will be much the same as last year. Vice-chairman of the planning committee is Gerry Wheeler and Mary Stretton is Secretary. The Funfest parade, a much enjoyed, well-participated event, last year has been tentatively scheduled for noon on the Satur­ day, and confirmation to attend has been received from the Seaforth Girls Band and the Brussels Public School band. For those who love to dance, the Rudy Davis Band will be playing on Saturday evening, sponsored by the Recreation Committee, while the Legion is looking into the possibility of a dance for anyone who may prefer the more subdued music. For those who like to eat, the firemen will again be cooking breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning at the arena, while the Catering Group will hold a beef dinner on Saturday night and St. John’s Anglican Church will spon­ sor a pork chop dinner on Sunday evening. Other scheduled activities and events include: an outdoor church service, Sunday morning; an open house with refreshments at the Legion, Sunday; the Crusader’s Bessie Bingo, Sunday; and the Optimist’s bathtub races, Sunday at the dam. Brian Osborn, 23. of RR 2, Monkton was driving south on Queen Street in Blyth at a speed of 30 kilometres an hour according to a Wingham OPP spokesperson, when he turned out to pass a double-parked delivery truck. Lorna Fraser, 32, came onto the roadway from in front of the parked vehicle, police stated, and was struck by Mr. Osborn’s truck. Mrs. Fraser was taken into Dr. Hay’s office located nearby on Queen St., until the ambulance arrived. She was transferred to Clinton Public Hospital, then later to Victoria Hospital. Her injuries were listed as major, but her grandmother Mrs. Earl Caldwell reports that she is in good spirits and is progressing well. Listowel man killed in crash The slippery road and poor weather conditions are listed as the cause of an accident Thursday morning in Grey Township that left one man dead. Harold Rogers, 31, of Listowel was a passenger in a 1986 Chev driven by Marvin Smith, 39, of Listowel on Highway 86 at 7:40 a.m. on April 12, a spokesperson from the Wingham OPP stated. According to police the . Smith vehicle was eastbound when the driver lost control on the slippery road and began to fishtail. The car then crossed the road into the path of a westbound car driven by 26-year-old Dale Hunt of Wroxeter. The ’83 Cougar struck the passen­ ger’s side of Mr. Smith’s car killing Mr. Rogers. Mr. Smith and Mr. Hunt were taken to Listowel Hospital where Mr. Smith remains in stable condi­ tion. A passenger in the Hunt vehicle, his wife, Lynne, 26, was also transported to Listowel Hospi­ tal, but was later transferred to Stratford General. Her condition is also listed as stable. Water problem delays subdivision Inadequate water flow may delay all or part of a proposed subdivision at the north end of Blyth, village council learned at a meeting Wed­ nesday. John VandenAssem, the develo­ per and Cindy Fisher, the village’s planner with the Huron County Planning Department attended the meeting to discuss progress toward a subdivision agreement.
