Blyth students prepare speeches HONOURABLE JUDGES by Erica Clark and Kim Ferguson For the past few months, stu dents at Blyth P.S. have been busy getting ready for speeches. Grades 4 - 8 competed within their own classrooms to choose the top three who went on to further competition with other winners from other grades. They were split up into two groups; Junior, which included the top three speakers from grades 4-6, and Seniors which included the top three people from grades 7 and 8. From grades 4-6, April Van Amersfoort, Cappy Onn, Erin Roulston, Jill Walden, Trent Rich mond, Jennifer Brigham, Julie McNichol, Chad Haggitt and John Armstrong, spoke on the stage. Of these nine speakers, Jill Walden, with her speech on “The Walden 3-Ring Circus”, Cappy Onn, with her speech on “Mr. Proctor Silex’’ (the toaster), and April Van Amers foort, with her speech on “The World of Babies”, will go on to Hullett to compete in the next division. For grades 7-8, Jodee Medd, Kimberley Richmond, Erica Clark, Paul Hessels, Sarah Rouw, and Stephanie Lentz were chosen to speak. Of these six speakers, Kimberley Richmond, speaking on “A Trip Through Time”, Jodee Medd with her speech on “Par ents”, and Paul Hessels with his speech on “Reading” will repre sent Blyth in Hullett. The grades 1-3 said their poems on Monday, Feb. 19. GRADE 8’S ARE VISITED BY HEALTH NURSE by Jen Stadelmann and Steph Lentz Mrs. Linton of the Huron County Health Unit began a four-week course with the Grade 8’s on Sexual Education. The first week consisted of a film about adolescents and growing up. Following the film, we discussed the contents of the film. The second week there was another film on pregnancy. We talked, after the film and about the male and female reproductive systems. Next week we will watch another film, “It Must Be Love: Cause I Feel So Dumb”. The fourth session will be a question period. We thank Mrs. Linton for her patience. We know more about ourselves and the physical and emotional changes occurring dur ing puberty. Mabel's Grill Continued from page 4 negotiating the reunification of Germany. “Maybe when they get that negotiation finished they can come back and renegotiate the reunification of Canada.” THURSDAY: Billie Bean says he doesn’t know whether he wishes he’d been born more athletic so he could make money like the ball players or a good looking woman like Ivana Trump so he could make $25 million just to get divorced. Well, said Julia, there’s a lot of similarities. In both cases you have to make the money while you can because it’s a short career and there’s always some young rookie sitting in the wings waiting to take your place. FRIDAY: Tim says that with the interest rate hitting new highs the government better be careful. “Soon we won’t even be able to afford to borrow the money to pay our taxes,” he said.
