The December meeting of the
W,M.S. of Brick United Church was
held on Tuesday last at the home of
Mrs. Frank Thompson with eleven
ladies present, and with Mrs. W. T.
Moores presiding and giving the call
to worship. The Christmas program
from the Missionary Monthly was
used and the following ladies took
part in the candle-lighting service;
Mrs. Lawrence Taylor, Mrs. Herson
Irwin, Mrs. Stanley Snell, Mrs. John
Currie, Mrs, Gilbert Beecroft, and
Mrs. Chas, Shiell and all repeated the
Magnificat from Luke, chapter two.
Several carols were sung during the
meeting, and Mrs. Moores led in pray-
er. The report of the nominating com-
mittee was accepted, but the installa-
tion service was left until the Janu-
ary meeting. All the W.M.S. com-
mittees gave their reports and all
were pleased that the allocation had
been exceeded, Mrs. Frank Thomp-
son was taken by surprise wh'..n she
learned that the Society had made her
a life member, The ladies were ask-
ed to assist with a box of Christmas
goodies, which is to be sent this week
to their missionary, Miss Agatha Coul-
tes, Reg.N., of Maynooth. Rev. Mr.
Moores closed the meeting with pray-
er.
During the Sunday service at Brick
United Church, a service of dedica-
tion of the new hydro system was ob-
served,
Young Adult Group Meets
The Young. Adult Group of the Un-
ited Chure,h met last Tuesday even-
ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rus-
sell Chapman, with Mr. Edward Mc-
Clenaghan presiding at the meeting.
Mrs, Chapman, read the Scripture les-
son and Mr. MeCtenaghan led in pray-
er. Mrs. Clarence MeClenaghan read
a Christmas story, and all joined in
carol singing, after which the group
practised the Christmas play for the
concert this Friday evening in the
United Church.
Presbyterian W,I118,
The December meeting of the
W.M.S. of the Presbyterian Church
was held on Wednesday last at the
home of Mrs. John Craig, with the
president, Mrs. Walter Lott, presiding
and giving the call to worship from
Psalm 67. Miss Annie Kennedy led
in the responsive reading of the Scrip-
ture lesson from Luke chapter two,
and Mrs. Fred Newman led in a
Christmas prayer. All joined in sing-
ing several carols. Mrs. Johnston
Conn gave a piano solo, "0 Holy
Night". The roll call was answere'
by using the word "Deliver", and
Miss Lila Emerson gave a reading,
"The Shining Trail". Mrs. James
Maclnnis led in the Glad Tidings
prayer an,/ Mrs. Gordon Elliott led
in the offertory prayer. Thirteen la-
dies and three children were present.
The next meeting will be held at the
home of Mrs. Fred Newman. The
meeting was closed by all repeating
the Lord's Prayer,
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. George Coultes, of
East Wawanosh, Mrs. James Leaver
and Mr. and Mrs ;Norman Keating an
Catherine of Wingham, were recent
visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Albert
Coultes.
Mrs. Robert Purdon returned home
on Friday after spending two weeks
with her mother, Mrs, Anderson, at
Montreal and at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Floyd Bott, of Bel-
wood.
Mrs. Elroy Laidlaw and her little
daughter returned home from Wing-
ham Hospital on Friday last.
Mrs. Will Conn has been visiting
during the past two weeks at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Hardie
Simpson, of Teeswater, and with her
sister, Mrs. Sam Hutchison, of Wing-
ham.
A large crowd attended the Christ-
mas concert in the Sunday School
room of the P7eshyterian Church
here last Friday evening. Mr. James
Wilson was chairman for the occas-

Christmas recitations, sang carols,
and enjoyed the lantern slides of the
Christmas story, and each received
a treat of candies. The singing of
the National Anthem closed the
meeting. Lunch was served and a so-
cial time enjoyed by all,
Mr .and Mrs, Mitchell Elliott and
daughter Linda, of Morris, visited on
Sunday at the home of his parents
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Elliott.
Little Jerry Grain, of Listowel, was
a visitor for a few dais last week
with his grand parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Lance Grain, while his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Orton Grain, made a busi-
ness trip to Kirkland Lake,
Mr. Gordon McGee had the misfor-
tune to turn his ear over in the snow
on the sideroad on Saturday. Luckily
he escaped Injury,
