WANTED
Norman C. Maynard Sr.
Dies at 72 in Toronto
Active in the jewellery business for
many years, Norman Cecil Maynard,
72, of 150 Farnham Ave., died at the
Toronto Western Hospital. He was
born at Fenelon Falls. Formerly
manager for Ryrie-Birks Co., he
later resided in Hamilton for a time.
He returned to Toronto and was with
the T. Eaton Co. prior to his retire-
ment eight years ago. During the
Second World War, Mr. Maynard was
with the WPTB. He was a former
member of the Rotary Club.
He leaves his wife, Ethel Gardiner
Maynard, and two sons ,Norman C.
Maynard, Wingham, and John G.
Maynard, Chicago.

Ruth Ann Hollands of S.S. No. 3
Kincardine wins with her prepared
address and Ronald Weiler of Mild-
may Separate School wins the County
cup for the best prepared and ho-
promptu speech considered jointly.
Nineteen contestants representing
as many municipalities took part in
the Bruce County Oratorical Contest
in Paisley Town Hall on Friday, Nov-
ember 2nd. Each young orator had
won a preliminary contest in his or
her own township or urban centre.

A dozen of the club members were
in Goclerich on Monday night as
guests of the club there and to bear
District No. 1 Governor Bill Colby's
address.
Some of the Kinsmen were very
interested in the activities of their
fellow members at the dance on Wed-
nesday night, Plans have been made
fat the Radio Auction to be held in
the near future. Four new members
will be initiated into the club at the
next regular meeting, Friday Novem-
ber 16th. After the initiation a 'Beef
Night' will be held in which all the
members are to voice their com-
plaints (if any) about club procedure,
activities, service work, meetings, etc.
Treasurer Lloyd Ellaco't reported
a balance of $163 in the club account
and $1550 in the service account.

rafters hipped roof with frame gables.
Floors to be concrete slab on grate

ings and specifications will be. mail-
ed on request and the receipt of $25.00
deposit at the architect's office.
Arthur Haviland, 71, of 49 Front
street, who died suddenly Wednesday,
Oct, 31st., at Stratford General Hos-
pital, was born at West Lorne, and
had lived in. Stratford since 1905. He
was taken to the hospital Sunday
suffering from pneumonia, and was
thought to be making a good recov-
ery, when he died suddenly,
He was a son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. John Haviland, For years
he taught business college in Buf-
falo, Cleveland and Wingham, Fol-
lowing his marriage in 1905 to Agnes
Churcher he came to Stratford. For
a time he was secretary at the Y.M.
C.A., and later he was employed by
the former Stratford Chair Company
as accountant and office manager. He
began with that firm in 1919, retiring
in 1950.
A member of Ontario Street Baptist
Church until recent years he was
active in work of the organizations,
Surviving are his wife, three daugh-
ters, Mrs, Edwin Manual, Stratford;
Mae, Toronto; Mrs. Donald Reid,
Drayton; one brother, Frank, Port
Nelson ,and one sister, Mrs. A. C.
Wiley, West Lorne,
Services were conducted from the
Heinbuck funeral home, Friday, Nov,
2nd at 2,30 p.m., and interment in
Avondale Cemetery,

On Monday, November 5th at the
Wingham Armouries the 99th Sty.,
R7C.A., was fallen-in by Sgt.-Major
Bill ):Iarris, The troops were inspected
by Battery Commander Capt. Roy
Banner.
A Troop had a period of map-read-
ing by Capt. W. S. Hall of Regimental
Headquarters. H Troop were intro-
duced to Gun Drill on the 17 pdr,
Anti-Tank Gun, in preparation for a
Shoot at Meaford Ranges next Soar
day.
The final period was attended by
troops and Medical Officer Major W4
A. McKibbon gave a practical lec
Lure on field first-aid. Each man
spected and tied some of the field
dressings.
The results of the sports night held
at Listowel Armouries are as follows,
100th Bty. (Listowel) 279 pts; 99th
Bty, (Wingham) 218 pts; 97th Bty.
(Walkerton) 19 pts. . As a result of
the games, the 100th Bty. Listowel are
the first holders of the Col. R. S.
Hetherington Sports trophy. The new
trophy is to be up for competition at,
each inter-battery sports festival.
Notice to all Battery Member,
This coming week-end ,the entire
Regiment will have a week-end
scheme at Meaford Ranges. It will
take the form of a 17 pdr. shoot. The
99th Bty. will leave in two bodies.
Those wishing to go on Satui'day will
leave the .Armouries at 13.00. Those
