DAVID DOHERTY David Doherty died at his home in Blyth early Monday morning, fol- lowing a three months' illness from a heart condition. The late Mr. Doherty who would have celebrated his 76th birthday next week, was born in St. Vincent Township near Meaford and was a blacksmith by trade, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Doh- erty. Fifty years ago, July 3, he was married, and he and Mrs. Doherty lived near Meaford until 1948, when they moved to Blyth. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Roy and Garfield of Blyth; three granddaughters, Mrs. Vernon Speiran, Miss Marjorie Doherty and Margaret Ann, also one brother, Chas. Doherty of Meaford. The funeral service was conducted by his minister, Rev. C. Scott of Blyth United Church, with interment in Union Cemetery, Blyth on Wednes- day last. REAL SYMPATHY Even facts are not real to us until we have learned to use our imagina- ion in connection with them. To know that our brother is poor, his home bare of comforts and his children suffering, is not enough to trouble our hearts and awaken our sympathy unless we can picture ourselves in a like condition. What would such a situation mean to us? The golden rule is a distinct demand upon the imagi- nation to put ourselves in another's place.
