who were recently married, is plan-

in Wroxeter 'town hail,
Mr. Harold Ridley and family will
take up residence in Mr. F. B, Mill-
ward's residence on highway 87. Mr.
Ridley will have charge of the C.P.R.
section succeeding Mr. Vern Denny,
who has moved to Owen Sound. Mrs.
Ridley was formerly Miss Douglas of
this district,
The new service station on high-
way 87 is progressing nicely. Until it
is completed Mr. and Mrs. PolcoYolus
are living in Harvey McMichael's
farm home on the second of Turn-
berry.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Borst of New
Hamburg, were Sunday visitors with
D. S. and Mrs. MacNaughton.

ed their play '"Grandpa'* Twin Sister",
in Trowbridge on Tuesday evening.
This play has proved very popular
with a full house in every town,
Mr, and. Mrs. Tom MacEwen have
taken up residence at Barrie where
he is employed,
Mr, and Mrs. George H. Gibson
have returned from their honeymoon
and have taken up residence at their
farm Wroxeter south, They enjoyed
a trip down the St. Lawrence River
to Montreal, to Ottawa and home
through Northern Ontarie,
Funeral Dr. Munro
Relatives from here were in Wood-
stock on Tuesday attending funeral
services for the late Dr. John Munro,
Who received fatal injuries in an
automobile accident, John who was
born and grew up in this village was
a great favorite and people in the
community are grieved at his passing.
Deep sympathy is extended to his
brother, Allan, also Donald of Tor-
onto. Donald with hip family was on
a holiday trip to the coast when the
word reached him and returned by
plane to he present at the funeral of
his brother.
Several members of the local Wo-
men's Institute were guests of the
Fordwich Branch 6n Wednesday
evening, when Mrs. Arthur Hamilton
of Atwood gave a travelogue with pic-
tures of her trip to Copenhagen,
where she attended the Associated
Country Women of the World Con-
ference,
Families of the 'Village, who own
summer places at Amberley, have
now hydro installed which will prove
an added convenience.

Mr, and Mrs. Geo. Griffith were Mr.
and Mrs. Leo Duggan of Stayner,
Mr, and Mrs. Michael Teiehus, Tor-,
onto, Mr. Bert Nixon, Winnipeg. The
latter, who has spent the past two
weeks with his son, Wallace, and
Mrs, Nixon at Wingham, left for his
home on Tuesday,
Salem Church Re-decorated
Salem Church, which is situated
two and one half miles north of the
village of Wroxeter, has been redecor-
ated. Members of the congregation
have given much time and thought
throughout the winter and spring and
now have the satisfaction of having
a beautiful place in which to wor-
ship, The color scheme is soft blue
for the ceiling with mushroom pink
on the walls. The woodwork too has
been revarnished. On Sunday next,
June 24th, there will be a celebration
of the Holy Communion, when ten
new members will be received into
church membership, The service will
be held at 10 o'clock a.m. and will be
the final service to be conducted by
Rev. U. E. Cronhielm. Mr. Cronhielm,
who has spent four successful years
as minister of Salem and Wroxeter
charge will leave the following week
for a new charge at Oxford Centre.
Women's Institute Meets July 4
The July meeting of the Women's
Institute will be held in the Masonic
Club rooms on Wednesday afternoon,
July 4th., at 2.30 in the after-
noon. Roll call, Bring a flower and
name it, to be placed in t bouquets for
the sick. Motto, Think Canadian, See
Canadian and live good Canadian liv-
es will be taken by Mrs. J. H. Wylie.

Mrs. George Griffith presided for
the June meeting of the Women's
Guild, St. James' Anglican Church.
Following a short worship service
the afternoon was spent preparing the
church and basement for the reopen-
ing of the church at 4 p.m., July 1st.,
with Rev, Douglas Vogan in charge.
Plans were made to hold an after-
noon tea and baking sale in the near
future and a committee set OD to ar-
range for same, A social hour follow-
ed the afternoon's activities.
Grandmothers' Day at Institute
It was Grandmothers' Day, when
the local branch of the Women's In-
stitute held their June meeting on
Wednesday, in the Masonic Club
rooms. The committee, Mrs, Lyle
Brothers, Mrs, John Lane and Mrs.
'Wesley Newton, assisted by Mrs,
Harold Durst, prepared a special
programme. Each grandmother was
presented with a corsage fashioned
of blue and gold flowers and tied
with a golden ribbon. The club room
took an a festive atmosphere, with
baskets of flowers in artistic arrange-
ment. Mrs. Robert McMichael receiv-
ed a prize for being the oldest grand-
mother and Mrs. Gilbert Howes for
the youngest, Thirty-nine members
and visitors responded to the roll
call "Memories of My Grandparents."
Mrs, Frank Sanderson convener of
historical research and Mrs. Leslie
Douglas, convener of current events
and public relations, both delegates
to the recent Officers' rally at Guelph,
gave interesting and helpful reports.
Both delegates expressed their ap-
preciation to the members for sending
them to the conference. Mrs. Harold
Hamilton of Bluevale, a former mem-
ber of the local branch was present
and favoured with a solo "The Second
Minuet." Others taking part in the
programme were Shirley Reidt, a
piano solo; Helen Parker, solo; Mrs.
Harold Durst, comic reading duet,
Mrs. Hamilton and Mrs. MacNaugh-
ton. Mrs. Brothers was accompanist.
Mrs. J. H, Wylie won the lucky chair
prize and Mrs. Millward the flower
contest, conducted by Mrs. Newton,
Mrs, D. S. MacNaughton presided
and Mrs. Harvey Timm presented the
minutes and correspondence, which
included several notes of thanks for
gifts from the good cheer committee.
Mrs. W, T. MacLean was unanimous-
ly elected president, replacing Mrs.
Vern Denny, who recently moved to
another oommunity. Guests placed
their names in the memorial guest
book. Mrs. Harold Durst thanked

with a minimum educational standard of
Junior Matriculation, may become officers in
the Canadian Army Active Force.
If accepted .you begin training at Camp Borden as an officer
cadet to qualify as a Second Lieutenant in the Active Force.
You will receive Second Lieutenant's pay while in training.
This training will consist of three courses totalling a period of
twenty.eight weeks. When you are granted a commission
you will then serve for periods of 3, 4 or 5 years as you choose
under the Short. Service Commission Plan. At the end of
this service you may apply for a permanent commission.
This is a chance to serve Canada at a time when defence stands as a
most important national concern. The training and experience
in leadership will be invaluable assets to any young matt
throughout his whole life.
