LAU G HTER SEEN AS WORLD NEED
The writer returned on Sunday after three days in
Montreal attending a weekly newspaper convention.
The highlight of the entire event was not any momentous
decision about newspaper policy — it wasn't even the
discussions about dangerously high costs of production
which stand out in our mind. The most -important
words we heard were spoken by a man who has made
humor his hobby, lie was the after-dinner speaker at
a banquet on Friday evening and he devoted three-quarters
of an hour to illustrating the point that laughter has be-
come all too rare. 1.-ledid open his talk by saying that
it is important to laugh and he mentioned some of the.
practical reasons, but he didn't spend much time in ex-o
planation. lie didn't need to for he soon had two
hundred sad-faced editors rocking in their seats.
Mr. Ford, the speaker, believes that laughter is our'
most powerful weapon against all those common ills!

SIGHT OF A. FEW BIG ONES
EXCITES THE FISHERMEN

It seems that the fishermen of Fergus are getting
quite excited these days. Several large Kamloops trout
have been pulled out, Latest of these was a three-
pounder hauled out of the hole below the Shand Dam on
Sunday afternoon by some visitor, whose name was not
secured. Most of the others have been well below that
size.
But what is getting the fishermen excited is a rumor
that there are much bigger trout in the Grand than ally
that have yet been caught. One of them did take a hook
