A Christmas candlelight service was
the opening feature of the meeting of
the Women's Missionary Society held
at the home of Mrs. W. A. Miller,
with eighteen ladies in attendance.
Mrs, W. L Miller presided and the
theme of the impressive service was
Our Faith in Jesus Christ. Mrs. Mil-
ler read the story of the Birth of
Jesus Christ as told in the Gospel of
Luke, Mrs, Lorne Woods lighted the
first candle which announced "Our
Faith in Jesus Christ, the Incarnate
Son of God." The second candle light-
ed by Mrs, J. Cameron proclaimed
"Our Faith in Jesus Christ the reveal-
er of God's Love." The message of
the third candle was "Our Faith in
Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the
World," It was lighted by Mrs. G. Mc-
Pherson, Mrs. W. A. Miller lighted
the fourth candle heralding "Jesus
Christ as the Risen Lord,"
The lighting of the candles was in-
terspersed with the singing of Christ-
mas Carols and Mrs. E. W. Rice sang
"Thou didst leave Thy Throne," as
the hymn of dedication after the offer-
ing.
The minutes of the last meeting
were read and the treasurer repotted
that $103.25 was the year's offering to
date. A letter of thanks for the bale
was read also a letter from Mrs, L.
Wightman regarding the Junior paper
i "World Friends." It was agreed to
subscribe for ten copies.
Rev. M. G, Newton presided for the
election of officers, The report of the
nominating committee was presented
by Mrs. Lorne Woods, This was ac-
cepted and the following are the of-
ficers for 1950.

Mrs. Chas. MacDonald was in the
chair for the meeting of the W.A.

of the Holy Family." The roll call
was responded to by a verse of Scrip-
ture; and was read by Mrs, J. Comer -
on and the lesson thoughts by Mrs.

$10 Christmas parcel. had been sent to
Overseas Relief. Rev. M. G. Newton
again took charge of the election of
officers with Mrs. Cameron present-
ing the report. seconded by Mrs. W. I.
Miller. The following are the officers

Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Miller and
Allan attended the funeral of their
uncle, Mr. John H. Wallace at Forest
on Friday. Mr. Wallace who was well
known here died at the home of his
niece, Mrs. Wm. Gallaher at Norwood
on Wednesday after a lengthy illness.
Under the direction of Miss Beat-
rice McQuillin and Mr. Eric Moore
and the musical instructor, Mr. Shel-
don Baxter, the pupils of the St. Hel-
ens School presented a fine program
in the Community Hall an Friday
evening. Rev. M. G. Newton was the
chairman and the program included
the recitation of welcome by Eddie
Gaunt; choruses, dialogues. Scotch
dancing by Isabelle MacPherson and
Flora Jean McQuillin; piano solos by
Flora Jean McQuillin and Isabelle
MacPherson; quartettes by Joan and
Irina Forster, Isabelle MacPherson
and Flora Jean MacQuillin. The im-
pressive pageant "There was no room
in the Inn" depicting the Christmas
story was followed by a farewell re-
citation by Marvin McDonald, after
which Santa Claus appeared nand dis-
tributed gifts.
Mrs. M. G. Newton is a visitor with
her daughter, Mrs. Clayton Charlton
and Mr. Charlton at Port Alma.
Mrs. MacRamage and little son, ar-
rived home frons the Wingham Hos-
pital on Sunday.

United Church News
The Trail Rangers held their Par-
ent's Night on Wed., Dec. 141h.
Mentors Dick Carson and Tom Edgar
presented the crests and berets while
Rev. J. R. Watt closed the devotional
part with vrayer. Coloured slides on
Trail Ranger work were shown and a
splendid lunch enjoyed •by all, chief of
which was the Trail Ranger cake.

.Although only three members of
Brussels Young People turned out to
the skating party, thirty-six young
people of Gorrie Y.P.U. thoroughly
enjojyed the skating Harty on Friday
evening, Dec. 16th. Dave Neilson or-
ganized the games on the ice after
which the party canoe hack to the
church where more games, carol sing-
ing and lunch were enjoyed. All
young people are asked to watch for
announcement of January meeting.
United Church Sunday School
Has New Projector
Next Sunday morning at 10 a.nl. the
boys and girls will see the Christmas
story in picture form through the use
of their new projector. This pro-
jector is the fulfilment of tin' combined
efforts of \V.M.S., Sunday School and
members of the congregation.
At 11 a.nt. the Corrie 1 nited Church
Christmas service will be held. The
pastor, Rev. J. Roht. 'Watt, will give
the Clu•istnlas message and special
music is being prepared by the choir.
In tate evening at 8 o'clock there will
be a White Gift and Pageant Service
by the S. S.
The annual C.tr,I."i Vesver and
Candle Lighting Service was held on
Sntinday evening, The C' tr.T.'f'. girls
of Winghaln tinder the leadership of
Mrs. Tiffin and 1fiss Love formed the
ehoir and the entire inspiring service
was conducted by the giris and was
enjiojyed by all present.
Celebrate 40th Wedding Anniversary
On '.i'hursday, 1)ce. llith Mr. •end
Mrs. Leonard Rattan celebrated their
fortieth wedding attttiversary "with a
fancily gathering when all the members:
of their family and ten grandchildren
were present. The table was decorat-
ed with pink and white streamers,
pink attcl white bells and pink randlov,
centred with a three-tier wedding rake,
ttr, and Mrs. Rattan were the
recipients of lovely gifts. Mrs. Ruttan
received a pair of wool bed dthrows.
Mr. Ruttan, a pair of Flight boots.
Another surprise was a large basket of
chrysanthemums. The grandchildren
gave them a potted plant.
We join with many friends in wish-
ing this worthy couple many more
happy anniversaries.
Mrs. Ethel Bradnock left on Sunday
to spend the holidays with relatives
in Toronto.
