At the annual meeting of Wingham Gen- eral Hospital, reports showed that 134 patients had been treated during the year and the total expenditure was $3920.73, Directors appointed:- R. Clegg, W. H. Brown and Wilford of the apple evaporating factory have receiv-. ed two car loads of cull apples during the week. Mr. Wm. Cornyn has sold his farm in Turnbercy to Mr. John Martin of Cobalt. The annual report of the Postmaster General of Canada, shows the revenues of Wingham Post Office to be $6378.76 for the year. The track laying on the West Shore Elec- tric Railway between 'Goderich and Kincardine will commence at once. This is of interest to many Wingham MORRIS COUNCIL The Council met in the Township Hall on Nov, 7th, 1949, with all the members present. The Reeve presided. The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted on motion of Sam Alcock and Baillie Parrott. Moved by Chas. Coultes, seconded by Sam Alcock that Morris Council ask, for Russell's Currie's resignation as Road Superintendent, to take effect on December 15th, 1949. Carried. She was a dau- ghter of the late Major John anad Mrs. Kaine aand with the exception of a few years spent in Fort Frances had lived here all her life. She received her education at the Gorrie Public School and Harriston High School. In early life she was a teacher and later a nurse. While her health permitted, she was active in church and community affairs, being a member of the Church of England, S. S. teacher, charter member of the Women's Institute, Life member of the W M.S,, a nember of the Wom- an's Auxiliary and of the L.O.B.A. Surviving are a number of nephews and nieces and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Pearl Kaine, who nursed her through_ her long illness. Funeral service was held on Wed- nesday afternoon, from the M. D. Ir- vin Funeral Home, with Rev. J. C. Caley in charge assisted by Rev. J. R. Watt. Mrs, Frances Earngey sang. Interment was made in Gorrie Cemetery. The L.O.B.A. conducted the graveside service. Pallbearers were: E. H. Strong, Herb Neill, Ed. Bricker, Norman Wade, John Dins- more and Sam Stinson. The funeral of the late Charles Reading was held on Thurs- day. Mr. Reading was a valued and respected eitieon of the town, White- church: Mr. J, T. Holmes' new mill is nearly completed and the machinery ready to be installed, The Troy farm has been sold to Mr. A, Fox, who tak- es possession in the new year, Mrs, J, Sharpe and Miss Nettie are leaving to reside in Hamilton. A fine barn has been raised wi the farm of Mr, Colin Kennedy, 1st, Con, of Culriss. * TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO The members of the Women's Pat- riotic Society have 'purchased two large bronze electric light pillars as a memorial to those who fell in the war. These cost $300,00 and will be placed in front of the memorial monu- ment, The lights will be turned on for the first time on Armistice Day. The load to the south of Wingham over the prairie bridges has been greatly improved and widened. The Advance-Times takes pleasure in presenting to our readers, our first all home printed paper. The patent in- side pages have been discontinued, and, in future, we will publish the en- tire paper in our office, Mr. Joe Aus- tin had the misfortune to have his arm broken when his team ran away, Mr, Geo. Olver has purchased the Tomkins property on the corner of Shutcr and Victoria Streets. Mr. John W. King, M.P., expects to secure a field gun for Wingham to be set, in the Memorial Park. One of the oldest res- idents of Huron Co., passed away at her home in West Wawanosh. * * * FIFTEEN YEARS AGO Mr. and Mrs. Thos, Fells and dau- ghter, Doris, arrived back after a two month's trip to England. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Greer and Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Walker attended the funeral of little Beulah., Musgroye in Niagara Falls. The newly formed Ministerial Association of Wingham met at the home of Rev. J. F, Anderson, with the President, Rev. Kenneth McLean in charge. An impressive military fun- eral was conducted here, when Fred Carruth of London ,formerly of Wing- barn, was buried. The deceased enlist- ed with the 161st. Battalion, serving in France. He was fatally injured in a motor accident on Wednesday. Gorrie-A second relief car left Gorrie station for Fusilier, Sask. A former highly respected resident of Howick Twp., in the person of Win. S. McKee, was buried in Fordwich on Sunday. Miss Eleanore Carson en- tertained her girl friends to a Hallow- e'en party. Bluevale-Mr. and Mrs. Fred Seil- ing have moved into the house pur- chased from Thos. Stewart. Mr. Par- ker has opened a barber shop in the village. Whitechurch-Mr. Duncan Ken- nedy has leased the building in Wing- ham formerly occupied by the Welling- ton Produce Co., which he will use for a hatchery and feed station, Mr. Geo.
