St, James Church
On Sunday last, October 2nd,, the
VI Sunday after Trinity on the Oct-
ave of the Festival of St, Michaels and
all Angels, the rector of St. James,
Rev. J. C, Caley was in charge of the
service at 4 p.m., which was followed
by Holy Communion. In preparation
for the Baptismal service which will
be held in the near future, The duties
and responsibilities of Christian people
as sons of 'God were enumerated by
Rev. Mr. Caley.
Special Vestry Meeting
On Monday evening last a special
vestry meeting was held by the offic-
ers of St. James Church, for the pin.-
pose of appointing a people's Warden,
to take the place of Mr. H. V. Mc-
Kenney who has moved to a new com-
munity. Mr. Robert Evans was ap-
pointed to complete the year.
Salem Church Plan Turkey Dinner
Salem United Church who have
made a name for themselves by their
chicken dinners plan to hold a Turkey
Dinner on Wednesday, October 19th.
Their Anniversary services will be
held on the following Sunday, October
23rd., when Rev.-Reba I-Tern of Varna,
will be gcest speaker at 11 a.m. and
7.30 p.m. Tickets for Turkey Dinner
are available at Al Munro's, Dick Car-'
son's Gorrie, and CKNX. Wingham.
Sunday School Supper
The annual Sunday School Supper
will be,guest speaker at 11 a.m, and
will be held in the United Church
school-room on Friday, October 14th.
Members of the congregation are cor-
dially invited to present, Meat will
be supplied. Donations are asked for
the Pot Luck Supper from, parents
and friends,
Local Church Painted
A coat of fresh white paint has
greatly improved the exterior of St.
James Anglican Church.
Autumn Thank Offering Meeting
Sunday, October 10th, at 11 a.m.,
the Women's Missionary Society of
the .United Church will hold their
autumn Thank offering meeting. The
guest speaker will be Rev, John Stin-
son, who has just recently returned
from China on furlough. Mr. Stinson
is a native of Harriston. A cordial
invitation is extended to all to attend
this special service of the W.M.S.
Clothing Needed For Overseas
An urgent appeal as come to the
W.MS. United Church, for good used
and new clothing•for overseas. In ap-
peals made other years, the response
was most gratifying. A box has been
placed in the church for gifts. If you
have not already made a donation
will you please bring yours to church
on Sunday next, October 9th, follow-
ing this date, a committee will pack
and ship the bale.

Miss Margaret Jardine is visiting
friends in Goderich.
Congratulations to Mr. Ken Edgar,
teacher of Manual Training, in How-
ick Schools and his pupils on their
fine display at Howick Fall Fair. Ex-
hibits in Manual Training shown in-
dividually, also came in for a favour-
able comment, as did the school pro-
jects. The school parade was the best
yet, colorful costumes, cleverly made
banner and' the improved marching,
gave the judges a difficult task. An-
other popular corner of the building
was the Women's Institute project.
The bedroom ensemble, when Gorrie
W. 1.1 took first place, Wroxeter 2nd,,
Fordwich, 3rd, Ideal weather prevail-
ed and from the number of visitors
present Howick Fair Day is also
an Old Home Reunion.
Mr. and Mrs, J. L. Hetherington
and daughters, of Toronto, were week-
end guests of Mrs, M. Sellers.
Mrs. John MacLeod received word
on Saturday of the death of his bro-
ther, the late Wm. MacLeod, which
took place in Guelph Hospital on Sat-
urday, following a short illness. The
late Mr. MacLeod, a miller, formerly
lived in Bluevale, where he was fav-
ourably known. Funeral arrangements
are incomplete, pending the arrival of
his son, Vern, from British Columbia,
who is the only surviving member of
the family. Two sons, Wm. and Ogal,

verton. He was a good neighbor and
kind friend and during years spent in
this district, made many warm friends,
who will miss him greatly. Surviving
are two sons, Edward and George,
who resided with their father. Mrs.
Lambert predeceased her husband
four years ago.
Funeral services were held on
Thursday, from Irvin's Funeral Home,
Gorrie, with Rev. U. E. Cronhielm
of Wroxeter United Church, conduct-
ing the service. Pallbearers were, El-
gin Lambert, Grant Lambert, Robert
Parkinson, John Aitken, Jim Douglas,
Russel Riley. Interment was made in
the family plot Greenwood cemetery,
Milverton.
Mrs. Thos. McMichael who attend-
ed her daughter's wedding in Toronto,
going on to Port Burwell, has return-

Mr. T. A, Gibson Passes
Friends here learned with deep re-
gret on Monday morning of the sud-
den passing of Mr. 'I'. A. Gibson of
the 9th concession of Howick, former-
ly a highly esteemed native citizen
of Wroxeter. Sympathy is extended
to Mrs, G. A. Wearring and other
members of the family in their ber-
eavement.
Mr. and Mrs, Gordon Gibson spent
the week-end with their daughters,
Misses Lulu and Bonnie Gibson, Lon-
don.

Joseph J. Lambert
At his late residence, Brussels Road,
on Tuesday, September 27th, 1049,
there entered into rest, a highly es-
teemed resident of the district, Joseph
J, Lambert. ,Mr. Lambert had been in
failing health for some _months and
seriously ill the past weeks.
