Harvest Thanksgiving Service
Tokens of a bountiful harvest, corn,
grain, fruits and vegetables and lovely
baskets of autumn flowers were taste-
fully arranged for the Harvest
Thanksgiving service at St. Stephen's
church on Sunday afternoon, The rec-
tor, Rev. J, C., Caley spoke on the
theme, "Man Shall not live by bread
alone." The anthem ,'While the Earth
Remaineth" was rendered by the choir
with Mrs, J, C. Caley taking the solo.

Woman's Auxiliary
Three quilts were quilted by ladies
of St. Stephens church and friends
on Thursday afternoon in the Orange
Hall, Only a brief business meeting
was held. The ladies will have their
usual refreshment booth at the Fall

Fair ,on Saturday, October 1st, in
Mrs. Frances Strong, Mrs. E. H,
Strong, Mrs, Mel, 'Gilkinson and Mr.
Roy Strong attended the funeral on
Wednesday in Mount Forest of Miss
May Clark, who died after a few
days illness, in her 61st year. Miss
Clark was a former resident of the
6th con,, and leaves to mourn her
loss an aged mother.
The raising of Mr. Lorne Walker's
barn was completed last week. About
60 men gathered on Tuesday after-
noon, but as it was not comiileted, vol-
unteers came again on Wednesday.
Mr. Walker purchased a barn in Turn-
berry Township, had it taken down
and moved to his farm to replace the
one destroyed by fire in the spring,
Among those attending the funeral
of Mrs, Bernice Stimpson, were her
cousins, Misses Olga and Mary El-
liott, former residents of con. 3. How-
ick. They have been spending the
summer in Ontario and left on Thurs-
day to motor to their home in Van-
couver, B. C.
Mr. and Mrs. Ewart Whitfield and
Mr. Jas. Douglas spent the week-end
at Flint, Mich.
Mr. and Mfrs, Chas. Manning and
daughter, Lynn, of Durham, were
guests of Mr. and Mrs, E. E. Wel-
lington on Sunday.
We regret the printer's error which
stated in last week's issue that Mr.
August Keil had been ill. Mr. Neil
is enjoying his usual good health but
it is Mrs. Keil who has been ill and
her condition continues ta be much

been as well as usual during the past

Brussels, were Sunday guests of Mr.

Mr, Norman Wade was at the Sea-
forth Fair on Friday where lie acted
as judge of hogs.
Miss Burns visited Mrs. Tom Sang-
ster and Mrs. Andy Allan at Clifford
on Thursday. Both ladies have been
ill.
Mr. and Mrs. Laurie Scott and
sons, Bobbie and Donald of Blyth, vis-
ited Mrs. Elizabeth Armstrong on
Sunday.
Mr. Alex Edgar has returned to
the home of his son, Gladstone, of ter
spending some time with his son, Mr.
Stanley Edgar and daughter, Mrs.
Watson Brown at Molesworth.
Mr. John Robinson, who has been
a patient in a Toronto Hospital, for
the past week is expected to return,

too weak to undergo an operation,
