The monthly meetingof tthe W.
M.S, was held on Thursday after-
noon with 11 present, Mrs. J, L. Mc-
Dowell was in charge of the devotional
program with Mrs. Howard Campbell
at the piano, The meeting opened by
singing "1 gave My Life for Thee,"
Scripture lesson was read from Luke
10th chapter. Prayer by Mrs. Howard
Campbell, reading by Mrs. Frank
Campbell. The report of the Presby-
terial was given by Airs. J. L. Mc-
Dowell. Mrs. McVittie the president,
was in charge of the business and
after the singing of hymn "0 Jesus I
have promised led in prayer and gave
a reading `.One life is not enough."
Responsive reading was from psalm
1., II Peter, John 14, chapter 4-6.
Minutes were read and approved. The
'roll call was answered with a verse
of scripture. The June meeting will
be held at the home of Mrs. Wm,
McVittie and will be the birthday
meeting of the W.N1,S.. The meeting
closed with the benediction.
Mr. Jasper McBrien of Goderich,
Mrs. Annie Walper of Auburn, visited
on Monday at the home of Mr. .and
Mrs. Gordon Snell.
Frederick John Cook
A highly esteemed resident of East
Wawanosh in the person. of Frederick
John Cook, passed suddenly away in
Clinton Hospital, on Friday, May nth,
in his 66th year, Mr. Cook's passing
came as a great shock to his family
and friends.
The late Mr. Cook was born in East
Wawanosh, the son of the late John
Cook and Isabel Rodger, and had liv-
ed all his life' in the Westfield com-
munity. He was married in 1927 to
Miss Edna Cook of the 6th Conces-
sion of East Wawanosh, who with
one son, Arnold, three daughters,
Mrs. Jim Book (Phyllis); Violet and
Ruth survive, to mourn Ids passing,
also five brothers, Dave of Elgin,
Gordon of Cochrane, George of Bel-
grave, Walter and Thomas of West-
field, and three sisters, M rs. Reg
Carter(Mae) of Woodstock; Mrs. 1.
Snell (Lizzie) of Blyth; Mrs. Earl
Knight (Eva) of Blyth,;. One brother,
Jasper, and one sister, Bill predeceased
him.
Mr. Cook was an active and loyal
member of the Westfield United
Church and had been a member of the.
session for the past two years, He
also took a keen interest in sports and
as a friend and neighbor will be great-
ly missed in the community. The pall-
bearers were six neighbors, Jack Bu-
chanan, Douglas Campbell, Howard
Campbell, Norman McDowell, J, L.
McDowell and Harvey McDowell.
The many beautiful floral tributes
were borne by Jim Buchanan, Norman
Wightman, Billy Rodger, Lawrence
