FORTY YEARS AO
Among those who are talking of
going West are Bert onnali, who has
been making his hot* at R. j, Scott's,
6th line, and George Hewitt employed
at Samuel Walker's, The Clegg pas-
ture farms have been leased, the home
place to James Crashy and the,, farm
near Brussels. to Geo. Keys of that
town. Arthur Kerr, who recently
bought the farm of James Shurrie,
4th line, intends to build, a driving
shed and bog pen this spring.
Belmore—For nearly a week Miss
Sproat, Miss Dandson and Miss Scott
of Belgrave, were visiting with Miss
C. Hamilton, near Inglis' school - Our
singing school, which Mr. Skilling of
Teeswater, has conduCted for the past
three months, closed on Tuesday night
last. During the past week Mr. Rob-
ert Nickle has moved his household
effects' to M.Fs. Terriff's house. Mrs,
Hugh Halliday was visiting friends
in Wingham for the past week,
Personals—Mr. Frank Quirk of Co-
balt, is visiting with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs, John Quirk. Miss Lou Stal-
ker was visiting for a few days with
her friend, Miss Fanny Mason of
Blyth. Atr. A, Cosens was. in South-
ampton on Monday. Mr. Elliott Fleni-
ing of Brantford, visited for a few
days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
A. J. Fleming. Miss Frances Davis
has returned to her position in Mr. E.
Moore's restaurant,
New G.T.R. Bridge—The iron for
a new bridge on the G.T,R., near the
Western Foundry Co's works is being
placed on the ground and the work of
erecting a new bridge will be commen-
ced about the first of April. The pre-
sent bridge has been found too light
for the large Mogul engines, hence the
change.
East Wawanosh—Messrs. 4Isaac Wal-
ker and Wilfred Reid have returned
home after a week's visit in Toronto.

Lawyer" a play in four acts, will be
presented in Ebenezer Church, on

tieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and

Good Clean Hockey—The Junior
championship hockey match in the
Wingham rink on Friday evening
was one of the best ever witnessed
in Wingham, Clinton, winners of their
district, defeated the Wingham team,
winners of their district, in the first
game on Clinton ice by a score of 6
to 2, so in order to win the round,
Wingham had to defeat Clinton by at
least five goals. Both teams played
hockey in a clean, fast and gentleman-
ly manner that was a pleasure to
watch. The Wingham boys had the
visitors beaten 4 to 0 until within
about a minute of full time when Clin-
ton got the goal that won them the
round, as the game ended Wingham
4, Clinton 1, making the round score
Clinton 7 .and Wingham 6. The line-
ups were: Wingham, Bell, goal; W.
Lockridge and Chas. Paulson, de-
fence; Stan, Harrison, centre; B.
Browne and "Net" Morden, wings;
