Miss Griffith Honoured
Miss Alice Howes was hostess at
her home on Friday night at a • cup
and saucer and linen shower honour-
ing Miss Elizabeth . Griffith, whose
marriage to Mr, Glenn McKercher,
Jamestown, will take place in August.
Court Whist was enjoyed. The guest
of honour expressed appreciation to
her friends for the lovely gifts, Miss
Griffith is the younger daughter of
Mr. and Mrs, George Griffith, Wxor-
eter South.

Mission Band Picnic
The .Buds of Promise Mission Band
held their annual picnic on the church
grounds, Tuesday of last week with
an attendance of 38. A short Devot-
ional and business meeting was held
in the church school-room, and fol-
lowed by a programme of races, gam-
es and contests with their leaders,
Mrs.. Stuart Higgins and Mrs. Harvey
Reidt in charge. Picnic lunch was en-
joyed at the close.
Miss Anna D. HoOPer was pleasant-
ly surprised when her cousins, Mrs.
Orien Dippell and Sister, Mrs.s. Wil-
liam Percy, whom she had not seen
for 38 years came to visit her from
Buffalo. Mrs. Percy's son, veteran of
World War II and his wife visited
her also.

purchased the George Newton resi-
dence, and are retiring from farm life.
Recent visitors of Mrs. W. S. Mc-

the two sons of Mr. and Mrs. Steivart
McKercher of Saskatoon.
The Women's Association of the
United Church held their July' meet-
ing on Tuesday with Mrs, Charles
McCutgheon and Mrs. Thomas Mac-
Michael in charge.
During the absence of Rev, J. C.
Caley on holidays, there will be no
service in St. James Anglican Church.

Mr. and Mrs. H. V. MacKenney
spent the week-end with friends at
Hamilton.

held a Dance on Friday night in the
newly decorated Town Hall. Wilbee's
Orchestra supplied music. The Booth
was well patronized,
Week-end visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Dane, were Mr. and Mrs.
George Sproule, Detroit. Mr. and Mrs.
Eal Sproule, Exeter, Mr. and Mrs.
Russell Christie, Teeswater.
A group of young people from the •
second and fourth line of Turnberry,
during the summer season, Mire suet
twice weekly for a ball game. Gaines
are usually held at the home of Wen-
dell Stamper's on the 2nd., or Ken
Felker's on the 4th. These get-to-
gether's have been greatly enjoyed
by the young people.

Gorrie and Wroxeter Parish,

had as their guestrifor the past few
days, Mrs. John Higgins of Pilot
