Young People's Union
Calvin Moffat, convener of Missions
arranged the Monday evening meeting
of Young People's Union, United
Church. The meeting was called to
order with quiet music, Thelma Den-
ney at the piano. President, Jean Mof-
fat presided and opened the meeting
with the hymn, 0 Master of the Wak-
ing World. Frances Wylie chose for
the scripture lesson, St. Matthew's
Gospel, ch. 5, verses 1-12. Bob Cun-
ningham led in prayer. The Mission-
ary hymn, Saviour sprinkle many
nations was sung. The topic was taken
by Rev. U. E. CronNelm who spoke
of the difficulties a missionary faces,
relating many of his own experiences
in China and Tibet. Plans were made
to hold the next meeting on Friday,
May 7th, to take the form of a weiner
roast and be held in the village park,
weather permitting. Game committee,
Bob Cunningham, Calvin Moffat, Mar-
garet Moffat. Refreshment committee,
Scott Hunter, Pete Dobson, Thelma
Denny, Lloyd Townsend. The local
group have invited the Dramatic Club
of Melville Presbyterian Church, Brus-
sels to present their play, The Dutch
Detective in Wroxeter Town Hall, on
Thursday, May 13th, at 8.30 p.m. Pro-
ceeds in aid of building fund, The
hymn, Day is dying in the West, and
the ,Mizpah benediction brought the
meeting to a close.
Road Will Be Completed
Honourable George Doucett, Mini-
ster of Highways, together with John
Hanna, local M,P., met a number of
prominent men front Goderich, Ripley,
Lucknow, Wingham, Fordwich, Gorrie
and Wroxeter at the home of Mr. and
Mrs, Thos. Burke, previous to going
to the Progressive Conservative Rally
in Wingham on Thursday night, where
Mr. Doucett made the announcement
of the paving of Highway 87 to Harris-
ton.

Women's Institute
The May meeting of Wroxeter Wo-
men's Institute will be held on Wed-
nesday, May 5th, at 2,30 p.m., at the
home of Mrs. R. Pacey. The motto, "A
Book I have enjoyed mete, will be tak-
en by Mrs. J. II. Wylie, Huron Coun-
ty Hospitalization plan will 'be dis-
cussed by a guest speaker, Mrs. O. G.
Anderson, Wingham. Mrs. H. I. Durst
will review current events. Mrs,. J. X.
Allen, convener of Historical Research,
will give a paper under that heading.

New Lights Added
The citizens of Wroxeter were de-
lighted on Wednesday evening of last
week when 25 additional Street lights
were turned on .It has been felt for a
long time street lighting was inadequ-
ate, Through the efforts of Wroxeter
Community Association and Co-opera-
tion of the Hydro Commission it has
been brought about, These additional
lights not only make our village brig-
hter and more attractive but are a
safety measure as well,
Amateur Night A Great Success
Town Hall held a capacity audience
with hundreds turned away when on
Friday night Howick Lions Club held
their first Amateur Night Concert.
Sixty dollars was given away in prizes.
Over 30 entries came from local and
outlying districts. Doc Irvin and his
committee were .responsible for the
attractive setting, decorations being
carried out in the Gold and Blue
scheme. An amplifer and applause
meter were used with Elmer Purdon
of CKNX in charge. The Board of
judges were Lions Rev. J. C. Caley,
H. L. Knight, Harold Townsend, Lion
Gordon Gibson welcomed those taking
part and the audience then introduced
Lion Ken Edgar, Master of Ceremon-
ies who carried out his work very ef-
ficiently. The large number of entries
brought a variety programme of high
