The junior girls won 10 straight in league play and • defeated Stratford Nor- thwestern in a sudden-death semi-final. In the first game of Monday's final, the SH gals lost 29.17 to Stratford Central. , The second game of the two game total point series will be played this afternoon, Wednesday at the South Huron gym at 2 p.m. The local girls were off on their shooting missing on their first 20 shots at the basket. The seniors from South Huron also in the Huron- Perth final were defeated 39- 23 by Seaforth, Monday. The second game goes today, Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Seaforth. Brenda Riddell led the • senior Panthers with eight points and Lisa Stretton contributed six points. In the semi-final sudden- death jumior game South Huron led throughout and won 37-27. The next action for the Mohawks is tomorrow night, Thursday, when they travel For the first time in many years the senior boys basketball team from South Huron District High 'School, won a basketball tournament last weekend, emerging victorious from the Regina Mundi College Invitational Titan tournament. In the first game, played Friday night, the senior cagers defeated St. Joseph's High School from St. Thomas, 57-43. Dave Woodward scored 19 points to pace the victory, followed by Doug Hoffman with 13 points and 18 rebounds, and Steve Pearce's 14 points, Saturday morning, in the semi-final game, South Huron met the host school, Regina Mundi. After a close first half which saw the lead fluctuate back and forth, South Huron broke the game open to win going away by the score of 61-35. Doug Hoffman led the way with 15 points followed by Ian Sweet, who played an inspired game, with 14 points, and Dave Woodward with 11 points. • In the tournament final, South Huron met Arthur Voaden C.V.I. from St. Thomas. Once again the lead seesawed back and forth and the score was deadlocked at the k,half, 22-22. Throughout the second half both teams made at- maintained their lead -and. the game ended in. a 37-27 victory. Faye Geiser scored 10 points .before being fouled out late in, the third quarter and, Maja -Gana had eight. Cindy Down sank seven and to. Hensall to meet the Sherwoods. Game time is 8:30 pm, In the recent Mohawks- Saints game, goalie John. Hayter was back in action after an absence because of injury and kept the Saints off the scoreboard until the midway mark of the second tempts to pull away, but with 27 seconds remaining , Arthur Voaden scored to take a one point lead. Following a time out with 14 seconds left, the Panthers worked for a last shot; end with three seconds remaining, Doug Hoffman made an excellent move and scored the winning basket on a 15 foot jump shot to give South Huron a 46-45 victory and the tournament title. Hoffman led the scoring with 15 points, followed by Dave Woodward with 12 and Matt McClure with eight Charlene Verbeek earned five. These two. also con- trolled the boards on rebounds. The team now has a 4-2 exhibition record as it prepares for the opening of the league schedule.
